Scholarships at Washburn University School of Law

The Koch Scholarship is one of Washburn University School of Law's distinguished institutional awards for J.D. students. Once admitted, most students are automatically considered for merit scholarships from the general scholarship fund, but select students are invited to apply separately for the Koch Scholarship along with other named endowed awards. Recipients are chosen based on academic merit and application materials submitted when invited. The Wooley Scholarship at Washburn University School of Law is funded through the John B. and Colleen Lee Wooley Scholar Fund, an endowment established by the former Federal Magistrate Judge and his wife, both of whom met as students and later supported legal education in Kansas. Select admitted J.D. students are invited to apply for the Wooley Scholarship along with other distinguished named awards after receiving their admission offer. The fund provides substantial annual scholarship support to Washburn Law students and is administered by the law school's financial aid and scholarship selection process. The J.L. Weigand Jr. Legal Education Trust Scholarship supports long-term Kansas residents attending Washburn University School of Law who demonstrate scholastic excellence and commitment to practicing law in Kansas. Applicants must have been legal residents of Kansas for at least ten cumulative years before college graduation, have taken the LSAT or GRE, and be applying to or enrolled at Washburn Law, KU Law, or Notre Dame Law School. Upperclassmen must rank in the top 10% of their class. Awards vary based on existing financial aid and may include non-financial mentorship benefits. Applications open December 1 and all materials must be received by February 15 annually, including personal statement, resume, photograph, two letters of recommendation, and official transcripts.
