Scholarships at University of Utah

New incoming freshmen and community college transfer students starting their first semester in Mining Engineering at the University of Utah may apply for the Explore More Scholarship. Applicants need at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA and strong math, physics, and chemistry background. This one-time award provides $10,000, paid $5,000 per semester. After one year with a 3.4 or higher GPA, recipients may transition to the Browning Scholarship. Up to four awards are available. Admission to the university and declaring Mining Engineering are required.

The Lingutla Scholarship supports international students currently enrolled at the University of Utah who demonstrate strong academic performance, leadership, and commitment to campus or community service. One student is selected each semester for a $1,000 award applied to one term of full-time enrollment. Applicants must hold F-1 visa status, have completed at least two semesters on the Salt Lake City main campus, maintain a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA, and submit a resume plus a 300-to-500-word essay through Scholarship Universe. The application opens July 1 and closes August 3 for the fall semester award cycle.

The David Jorgensen Scholarship is a renewable need-based award for incoming first-year University of Utah students pursuing engineering degrees in biomedical, chemical, civil, computer engineering, computer science, construction engineering, data science, electrical engineering, materials science, mechanical engineering, or software development. Applicants must complete the FAFSA and apply through Scholarship Universe by February 8, addressing financial challenges and the role of entrepreneurialism in society in required essays. The scholarship is funded by David and Annette Jorgensen to support engineering students in completing their degrees at the Price College of Engineering.
