Scholarships at Shoreline Community College

The Blavat Family Scholarship was created in memory of Shoreline College nursing alumna Helen M. Blavat and Walter Blavat to assist students enrolled in Shoreline's Nursing Program. Preference is given to applicants who are parents with minor children living at home and/or who are pursuing a career in geriatric nursing, reflecting Helen's decades of work in geriatric nursing after completing Shoreline's program while supporting her family. Students apply through the Foundation's annual AwardSpring application during January through March. Recipients must maintain enrollment and satisfactory progress in the nursing program to receive quarterly disbursements through Financial Aid.

The Dina Kovarik Biotechnology Endowed Scholarship honors a Shoreline biotechnology instructor who devoted her career to helping aspiring biotechnologists succeed. The fund aims to ease financial hardship so biotechnology students can fully engage in rigorous laboratory coursework and clinical preparation. It is intended for students enrolled in Shoreline Community College's Biotechnology program. Applicants use the Foundation's annual AwardSpring application during the January through March cycle. Awards follow typical Foundation ranges and are applied to tuition first, with any remainder disbursed to the student through BankMobile after aid processing.

The Alvin M. Taniguchi, DDS Memorial Endowed Scholarship was created in 2024 to honor Dr. Alvin Taniguchi, a University of Washington dental school graduate and Redmond-area dentist who valued his dental hygiene team. The scholarship supports Shoreline Community College students on the path to careers in dental hygiene, recognizing the crucial role hygienists play in successful dental practices. Students apply through the Foundation's annual AwardSpring application during January through March. Recipients must remain enrolled in Shoreline's Dental Hygiene program and meet Foundation academic standing requirements to receive quarterly disbursements.

The Troy Wolff Memorial Humanities Scholarship was established in 2013 following the passing of Troy Wolff, a beloved Shoreline College English faculty member, department chair, published author, and Study Abroad leader. It supports Shoreline Community College students who focus on humanities in their studies, including literature, composition, and related liberal arts coursework. Applicants compete through the Foundation's annual AwardSpring application during the January through March window. Recipients must maintain at least a 2.0 GPA and remain enrolled at Shoreline to receive quarterly scholarship disbursements through Financial Aid.

The Instrumental Music Scholarship at Shoreline Community College supports students enrolled in an instrumental performing ensemble and/or instrumental private lessons. Preference is given to students enrolled in both ensemble and private lessons who have declared a music or music technology major. Applicants compete through the Foundation's annual AwardSpring application during January through March for the following academic year. Recipients must continue participating in Shoreline's music program and maintain at least a 2.0 GPA. Scholarship funds help cover tuition and educational expenses disbursed through Financial Aid across enrolled quarters.

The Ken La Fountaine Memorial Scholarship for First Nations Students provides financial assistance to students Indigenous to the Americas and associated territories who face a time of need that could disrupt their continued studies at Shoreline Community College. The fund aims to prevent enrollment interruptions caused by unexpected financial hardship. Students apply through the Foundation's annual AwardSpring application during the January through March window. Recipients must remain enrolled at Shoreline and maintain at least a 2.0 GPA. Awards are disbursed through Financial Aid and may require FAFSA or WASFA for need-based scoring.

The Biella Foundation Scholarship at Shoreline Community College is funded through grants from the Biella Foundation, established by Mart Bert in 1988 to support learning at all thirty-four Washington State community colleges through student scholarships and emergency aid. Mart Bert believed strongly in education and supporting young people to lead good lives.
