Scholarships at Savannah College of Art and Design

SCAD's Underrepresented Student Scholarship supports incoming students from underrepresented backgrounds who meet or exceed admission requirements. Applicants must request consideration by submitting a 500-word essay to their SCAD admission adviser as part of the admission process. The award is institutional gift aid for degree-seeking SCAD students. Undergraduate and graduate applicants may qualify depending on admission level. SCAD marks inclusion-focused scholarships to sustain a diverse, equitable, and inclusive university environment.

Transfer Scholars is a competitive SCAD merit award for transfer applicants who exceed admission requirements. Students must be nominated by an educator or counselor and provide an exceptional portfolio with a list of honors, awards, other recognitions, and leadership experience. Materials go to the SCAD admission adviser with the transfer admission application. SCAD also offers separate transfer merit and need-based awards; this named program recognizes outstanding artistic and academic transfer candidates.

A limited number of SCAD Honors Scholarships may be awarded to accepted graduate students who demonstrate outstanding artistic and academic achievement. Qualifying paths include a 3.5 or higher cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale, outstanding portfolio audition or writing submission with above-average grades and test scores, or GRE scores of at least 163 verbal, 157 quantitative, and 5 analytical writing. The Anisa International Endowed Scholarship is awarded annually to one full-time SCAD undergraduate or graduate student pursuing industrial design who is committed to increasing opportunities for women and dismantling stereotypes. Recipients must demonstrate financial need, community involvement, and maintain a minimum 3.5 GPA. The renewable award is administered through SCAD financial aid for enrolled SCAD students meeting the endowed fund criteria each academic year.

The Ben and Gloria Tucker Endowed Scholarship is awarded annually to one full-time SCAD undergraduate or graduate student committed to improving quality of life for African American communities who is from the Savannah or Chatham County, Georgia area. Applicants must hold a 3.0 cumulative GPA, have completed at least forty-five undergraduate or fifteen graduate SCAD credit hours by the end of spring quarter, and demonstrate financial need. The scholarship renews while recipients continue to meet established criteria.

The Hodge Foundation Endowed Scholarship supports one full-time SCAD undergraduate each year who is committed to improving quality of life for African American communities, resides in Chatham County, Georgia, and falls within the intended beneficiaries of The Hodge Foundation Inc. Recipients must maintain a 3.0 GPA, attend classes at SCAD Savannah, and demonstrate financial need. The scholarship renews while the student continues to meet established criteria and remains enrolled at SCAD.

The Jacob and Gwendolyn Lawrence Foundation Endowed Scholarship is awarded annually to one full-time SCAD Savannah undergraduate committed to improving quality of life for African American communities in the Savannah or Chatham County, Georgia area. Students need a 3.0 cumulative GPA, at least forty-five SCAD undergraduate credit hours by the end of spring quarter, and demonstrated financial need. Preference is given to students within the foundation's intended beneficiaries. The scholarship renews while criteria are met.

Initially endowed by SCAD in June 2020, these scholarships are awarded annually to twelve undergraduates (three incoming freshmen, three sophomores, three juniors, three seniors) and three graduate students committed to improving quality of life for African American communities. Students must have a 3.0 cumulative GPA (3.0 high school GPA for incoming freshmen) and demonstrate financial need. Awards renew while recipients continue to meet established criteria and remain enrolled SCAD degree seekers.
