Scholarships at University of North Texas

The Joann Peters Scholarship at the University of North Texas provides $1,000 to $2,000 to undergraduate chemistry majors in the College of Science, funded by a chemistry alum with the first award given in spring 2019. If no chemistry applicant qualifies, biology majors who completed three credit hours in chemistry may be considered, followed by physics majors with three chemistry credit hours. Recipients must meet university entrance and continuing academic standards, maintain full-time enrollment unless nearing degree completion, and submit an essay of no more than 1,000 words describing their work in science. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents. The monetary award defrays tuition and fees for the following academic year. The Students Helping Students Scholarship at the University of North Texas awards $1,000 to an incoming full-time College of Science student beginning in the fall term, funded by graduating science majors commemorating their time at UNT. Eligible applicants are first-time-in-college or transfer students pursuing any degree-granting major within the College of Science who meet college academic standards. College of Science pre-majors may receive the award their first fall term but must be fully admitted to a science major and maintain full-time enrollment in spring to retain funding. The Alma Blount Monticino Scholarship at the University of North Texas provides $1,000 to full-time undergraduates pursuing a major leading to a professional healthcare career upon graduation. Created in 2013 by Michael and Julia Monticino, the award requires a statement of intention to pursue a health field career and evidence of civic, community, or volunteer activity submitted with the application. Preference goes to students demonstrating eligibility for need-based financial assistance through the FAFSA. Applicants must meet university entrance and continuing academic performance standards. The scholarship supports students across health-related majors within the College of Science without discrimination by specific major field.

The Entering CSE Freshman Scholarship at the University of North Texas provides $1,000 to an incoming freshman accepted full time in a Computer Science and Engineering program. The CSE Scholarship Committee selects recipients from applicants who submit a 500-word-or-less essay describing why they want to study engineering and one letter of recommendation from a mathematics or science educator emailed to CSEscholarship@unt.edu. Applications are due March 1. If selected during a spring application cycle, funds disburse evenly across the following fall and spring semesters on the student's UNT account. The scholarship supports new students entering the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at UNT's College of Engineering in Denton.

The Pat Conroy Honors College Scholarship at the University of North Texas is a named award for continuing Honors College students, honoring author Pat Conroy. Honors College scholarships administered through the Eagle Scholarship Portal are minimally $1,000 for the academic year, disbursed half in fall and half in spring, and awarded for one year at a time. Applicants must be admitted Honors College students meeting GPA and Honors coursework participation standards, complete the General Scholarship Application and Honors College Additional Application in the Eagle Scholarship Portal by March 1, and maintain full-time enrollment. Awards are competitive with limited recipients each year. Notification occurs in late April or early May with acceptance required by May 31 prior to the award year.

The Undergraduate Research Fellowship at the University of North Texas is a campus-wide opportunity for undergraduate students of all majors to conduct faculty-mentored research during the academic year. Accepted fellows participate in research under their identified faculty mentor for the full year and receive a $500 award after presenting at UNT Scholars Day in the spring semester. Students apply jointly with their professor, submitting a 100–150 word project statement; mentors must confirm IRB, IACUC, or IBC status. Applicants must be UNT undergraduates who will not graduate before May 2027 and may reapply yearly for up to four total awards. Processing occurs through the Honors College, though Honors membership is not required to apply.
