Scholarships at Mount Mercy University

The Creative Talent Scholarship in Writing provides up to three thousand dollars per year for incoming first-year Mount Mercy students and up to two thousand dollars for transfer students who demonstrate strong writing ability. Submit five to ten pages of sample work such as creative writing, journalism, or literary essays along with the application materials requested by the English department. Priority deadline for first-year applicants is March 1. Renewal requires contributing to at least one student publication each year, taking a writing or literature course beyond composition annually, and attending two Visiting Writer Series events per year.

Mount Mercy offers Creative Talent Scholarships in graphic design worth up to three thousand dollars per year for incoming first-year students and up to two thousand dollars for transfer students. Applicants of any major may apply by submitting a portfolio of ten to twelve artworks in any medium plus optional sketchbooks, followed by a faculty interview in person or via phone or Skype. Priority consideration for first-year applicants is March 1. Recipients must join the Art Club, participate in club events, and take at least one fine arts, graphic design, or art education course each year to renew the award.

Mount Mercy's AmeriCorps Matching Scholarship provides up to twelve hundred dollars per academic year to undergraduates who completed at least one year of AmeriCorps service after July 1, 2008. Students must document their service to the financial aid office when applying for aid. The matching award supplements other Mount Mercy scholarships and federal aid and renews if the student continues to meet enrollment and satisfactory academic progress requirements. Contact the Financial Aid Office with AmeriCorps education award documentation to initiate the matching process before each academic year for which you request the benefit.

Mount Mercy's Social Work Scholarship provides one thousand dollars per year to incoming first-year and transfer students admitted to the social work major who enroll full time. Selection for additional department scholarships may consider academic ability, interest in social work issues, community service, and perspectives that add diversity to the classroom, with a separate application deadline of February 1 while funding remains available. Recipients must remain in the social work program and maintain at least a 2.75 cumulative GPA to renew the award. Submit the admission application and contact the social work department for the current scholarship application materials.

The Holland Honors Scholarship provides one thousand dollars per year to incoming full-time first-year students who successfully participate in Mount Mercy's Honors Program. Students generally qualify with a high school GPA of 3.60 or above, ACT score of 26 or higher, and class rank in the upper quarter, then apply to Honors by March 1. Honors coursework, interdisciplinary seminars, and a faculty-mentored research or scholarly project are required throughout the program. The scholarship renews annually while recipients maintain full-time enrollment and continue successful participation as determined by the Honors Program committee.
