Scholarships at James Madison University

The Allison M. and Andrew G. Brown Entrepreneurship Scholarship Fund provides a minimum award of five thousand dollars per year to undergraduates pursuing the entrepreneurship minor at James Madison University. Preference is given to rising sophomores with a demonstrated passion for entrepreneurship and, secondarily, to students with financial need as determined by the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships. The scholarship renews for two additional years while criteria are met and donor expendable funds remain available. The academic unit head overseeing the entrepreneurship minor selects recipients in consultation with the Dean of the College of Business.

Madison Achievement Scholarships are merit-based awards recognizing a broad spectrum of accomplishment and potential among James Madison University students. Approximately fifty awards are given annually with amounts ranging from five hundred dollars for one year to two thousand dollars for two years, depending on the student's profile and available funding. These scholarships are administered through JMU academic departments and the Madison Scholarships Hub alongside other college-specific opportunities. Incoming first-year students and continuing undergraduates may be nominated or selected based on academic record, leadership, and departmental criteria without a separate campus-wide application for this specific fund.

The Dr. Charles P. Bilbrey Endowed Scholarship provides a thirteen-hundred-dollar needs-based award to deserving James Madison University students in the Computer Information Systems and Business Analytics program. Established by former department head Dr. Charles P. Bilbrey, the scholarship supports juniors and seniors majoring in CIS who demonstrate financial need through the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships. Recipients are selected by CIS faculty and department leadership from applicants in the Madison Scholarships Hub. The award is one of several named CIS scholarships listed on the College of Business CIS student scholarships page.

The Dorothy Pruet Lytal and Donald E. Lytal Art and Elementary Education Scholarship Fund awards one thousand twenty-three dollars annually to a junior, senior, or fifth-year James Madison University student studying K-12 art education or PreK-6 elementary education. Recipients must be Virginia residents, with preference for students who demonstrate financial need as determined by the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships. The endowment supports ten scholarships over ten years from the estate gift. College of Education leadership selects recipients following university scholarship guidelines through the Madison Scholarships Hub recommendation process.

The Dingledine-Bluestone Scholarship for incoming JMU freshmen is equivalent to in-state tuition and fees per year for up to four years when eligibility requirements are met. The Dingledine-Bluestone Academic Selection Committee within the Honors College awards the scholarship annually to students who demonstrate excellence in academic achievement, leadership, and community service. Applicants must apply Early Action to both James Madison University and the Honors College, then complete the Dingledine-Bluestone Scholarship application in the Madison Scholarships Hub by November 15. Recipients are expected to remain active Honors College members in good standing to retain the award.

The Sentara Scholars Scholarship Fund, established by Sentara Healthcare, provides direct tuition assistance and limited emergency funding for JMU students enrolled in or planning to enroll in healthcare-related undergraduate or professional programs. Selected in-state students with demonstrated financial need may receive up to fifty percent of their annual tuition cost, or full funding of approved emergency requests, subject to existing scholarship policies. Eligible fields include nursing, health services administration, occupational therapy, physician assistant studies, audiology, psychology, social work, and dietetics. At least eighty percent of annual gift funds must go to tuition assistance. Recipients must remain in good academic and conduct standing.
