Scholarships at University of Houston

The Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship at the University of Houston funds rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors for a focused ten-week full-time research experience under a UH faculty mentor during the summer term. Current freshmen entering sophomore standing may apply; students graduating in the spring or summer of the award year are ineligible, as are prior SURF participants. Faculty sponsors may nominate up to two students. Recipients receive a summer research stipend and may earn transcript designation credit toward Honors in Co-Curricular Engagement. The Kinder Morgan Scholarship Endowment at the University of Houston awards two thousand dollars per academic year, paid over two semesters, to need-based juniors and seniors in the C.T. Applicants must be full-time degree-seeking students with a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA in good standing. Students submit evidence describing their creative and inventive qualities as part of the UH scholarship application process. The award is open across majors and colleges with no field restriction. Selection considers the applicant's demonstrated originality and inventive mindset rather than a specific major. Apply through the UH General Scholarship Application by the March 31 priority deadline to be considered for this and other endowed university scholarships.

The Mark and Judith Cook Foundation Scholarship is a full-ride award for students accepted to the University of Houston main campus who live in the Tamina community within zip code 77385. Applicants must be Texas residents, U.S. citizens or permanent residents, and demonstrate financial need. Required materials include a resume, two letters of recommendation, and a 250-word narrative on why the student wants to attend UH and how the scholarship supports their goals, submitted to the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid. Selected recipients must live on campus at least the first two years, maintain a 2.75 cumulative GPA, and enroll full time. The award covers tuition, fees, on-campus room and board, books, and UH-sponsored health insurance for up to eight semesters.

The Susan and Jerry Ballard Scholarship supports incoming University of Houston freshmen admitted to pursue a career in education or curriculum and instruction through the College of Education. Applicants must intend to enroll full time as degree-seeking undergraduates and have maintained a 3.0 GPA in high school core coursework required for UH admission. The award is based on financial need and academic merit, determined by the College of Education Scholarship Committee through the single college scholarship application with narrative, transcript, and references. Recipients may hold other scholarships up to cost of attendance. This is a non-renewable award for the first year; reapplication in later years is through the general COE process if eligible.
