Scholarships at Central Michigan University

MAC Scholars Program award for incoming CMU freshmen who are graduates of a Detroit public high school and have demonstrated dedication to advancing underrepresented groups in American society. Recipients enrolled full time on the Mt. Pleasant campus receive $4,125 per academic year for up to four consecutive years, with a total value up to $16,500. This scholarship may be stacked with the Maroon and Gold Merit Award. Renewal requires a 2.50 cumulative GPA and at least 24 new CMU credits earned per year. Apply through the applicant portal by January 15.

Wellness-focused scholarship for incoming CMU freshmen who value personal wellbeing and want to support peers as COMPASS peer educators. Recipients receive $4,000 per academic year for up to four consecutive years ($16,000 total) while enrolled full time. Eligibility requires a 3.0 high school GPA, CMU admission, and a completed FAFSA. Scholars complete cohort general-education courses, attend Leadership Safari, participate in COMPASS training and weekly meetings, and fulfill yearly wellness and service protocols. Maintain a 3.0 GPA for renewal.

Incoming freshmen admitted to Central Michigan University with a 3.0+ high school GPA and leadership and service experience may apply for the Leader Advancement Scholarship. Recipients receive $2,000 per year for four years. Requires FAFSA on file and a three- to four-page leadership application via the admission portal. Fall cohort applications are due January 15.

College of Science and Engineering scholarship recognizing undergraduate STEM students at CMU with academic success and passion for science. The one-time $2,000 award is open to students who have completed at least one year of STEM coursework at CMU, are enrolled full time in an undergraduate STEM program, hold a minimum 3.2 overall GPA, and graduated from a high school in Midland or Isabella County. Applicants submit a short essay up to two pages describing their interest in science; essays are weighted more heavily than GPA. Applications are due December 1.

CMU's most comprehensive competitive freshman scholarship covering tuition and fees up to 33 credits per year, standard housing and food, a $250 book allowance per semester, and $5,000 for study away. High school seniors with a minimum 3.7 GPA apply through the applicant portal after submitting an admission application; the deadline is early November. Renewable for three additional years when Honors Program renewal criteria are met, including full-time enrollment, on-campus residency in years one and two, and required credit completion.

Premier MAC Scholars award for select incoming freshmen who have distinguished themselves in advancing underrepresented groups in American society. Recipients on the Mt. Pleasant campus receive 100 percent of tuition and fees up to 33 credits per year, standard housing and food, a $250 book allowance per semester, and $5,000 for study away for up to four years. Renewal requires earning at least 30 credit hours each year and maintaining a 3.25 cumulative GPA. Apply through the applicant portal by January 15 after submitting a CMU admission application.
