Scholarships at University at Albany

Graduate students and working professionals who have completed at least 12 graduate credits in any academic discipline and have a minimum of three years of work experience may apply for the Fellowship on Women and Public Policy at the University at Albany's Center for Women in Government and Civil Society. Applicants of all backgrounds, genders, and political affiliations are welcome. The six-month fellowship offers a $15,000 stipend plus tuition assistance for academic coursework. Fellows enroll full-time at Rockefeller College and complete policy field placements (about 25 hours per week) in state agencies, the Legislature, or nonprofits from January through June, along with workshops, conferences, and mentoring. Submit a complete application through the fellowship's official website. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.

The College of Arts and Sciences offers $2,000 competitive awards to incoming UAlbany first-year students pursuing any major within the college. Applicants apply to UAlbany by November 15 through Early Action and submit the competitive award application by January 1, 2026, through the UAlbany Applicant Portal, with possible interview requirements. The non-tuition award renews for up to three consecutive years, for a potential total of $8,000, when recipients remain continuously enrolled full time with satisfactory academic progress.

Great Dane Teacher Competitive Awards provide $2,000 to incoming UAlbany first-year students interested in the Great Dane Teacher Pathway, including adolescent education, childhood and special education, early childhood/childhood education, and human development majors. Applicants apply to UAlbany by November 15 through Early Action and submit the competitive award application by January 1, 2026. The non-tuition award renews for up to three consecutive years, for a potential total of $8,000, while recipients remain continuously enrolled full time with satisfactory academic progress.

The Albert N. Husted Fellowship awards $1,500 to a University at Albany senior who holds or will earn a bachelor's degree from UAlbany by spring 2026 and has been in residence at UAlbany for at least two academic years as an undergraduate. The fellowship supports full-time graduate study at UAlbany or any other accredited university, with priority for candidates demonstrating aptitude and interest in teaching. Applications are due March 6 each year.

The Alumni Association Spirit Scholarship awards $1,000 to UAlbany undergraduates who demonstrate outstanding school spirit and commitment to the university community. Candidates must be rising freshmen, sophomores, or juniors, and financial need is considered in selection. Applications open online each February and are due March 6. Recipients are encouraged to attend the Alumni Association Scholarship Reception in the fall.

The Adna W. Risley Memorial Scholarship awards $1,000 to a University at Albany graduate who holds or will earn a bachelor's degree from UAlbany by spring 2026 and plans to pursue a graduate degree in history at the University at Albany. Priority goes to candidates who demonstrate dedication and commitment to civic engagement. Applications are accepted online beginning February 1 and are due March 6 each academic year.

The Paul Marr Award for Excellence in Planning Scholarship and Practice honors the University at Albany geography professor who founded the planning program and recognizes a top-performing Master of Regional Planning student actively engaged in community planning work. MRP faculty meet each March to identify students meeting both academic and community-engagement criteria and notify selected recipients in April. There is no separate student application; selection is by faculty consensus. The award commemorates Marr's legacy in planning education at UAlbany and does not publish a fixed cash amount on the department page.
