Scholarships at University of Ottawa

Indigenous (First Nations, Inuit, or Métis) or Black (African Canadian, Caribbean Canadian, or Afro-Caribbean heritage) PhD candidates who meet admission requirements for a Faculty of Engineering PhD program at the University of Ottawa and are Canadian citizens or permanent residents are eligible. Recipients receive $25,000 per year for four years plus IBET mentorship. Apply online with a CV, statement of purpose, supervisor letter of support, and any other relevant documents. Deadlines: Fall October 31, Winter March 31, Summer July 31. Short-listed candidates or supervisors may be contacted for an interview. The IBET Momentum Fellowship is a partnership among Canadian universities aimed at increasing Indigenous and Black representation in engineering academia and STEM.

Canadian Indigenous students (documented proof per University of Ottawa eligibility procedure) registered full- or part-time in undergraduate or graduate programs at the University of Ottawa Faculty of Social Sciences in good academic standing. International graduate students at the University of Ottawa Faculty of Law or Faculty of Social Sciences whose work focuses on North-South issues, international cooperation, developing-world challenges, human rights, democracy, or conflict resolution with an eye to development. Third- or fourth-year full-time undergraduate students in the University of Ottawa Faculty of Law, Civil Law Section, who are Canadian citizens, permanent residents, persons with protected or refugee status, or international students, have excellent academic standing, show interest in administrative law, labour law, or fundamental rights, and demonstrate commitment to student or labour associations or other work defending workers' rights. The award is $5,000. Apply via uoZone with a CV and a letter (max 500 words) on your legal interests and involvement in defending workers' rights. Deadline November 3.

Canadian citizens or permanent residents enrolled full-time in the French-language Honours Bachelor of Digital Journalism program, a French-language Master's in Communication, or the French-language Doctorate in Communication at the University of Ottawa Department of Communication, who are Ontario residents under OSAP rules and demonstrate financial need, may apply. At least $5,000 (OSOTF). Apply through Online Scholarships and Bursaries in uoZone with the Financial Questionnaire and a portfolio of at least three journalism pieces by November 3. The Edgard Demers Commemorative Scholarship assists French-language journalism and communication students whose education would otherwise be compromised.

Full-time English-language JD students at the University of Ottawa Faculty of Law, Common Law Section who are Ontario residents, demonstrate financial need and strong academic standing, and show genuine interest in income tax and/or business law. Preference goes to applicants with genuine interest in income tax law. At least $4,000. International graduate students enrolled full time in the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (Faculty of Engineering) at the University of Ottawa who demonstrate financial need and academic excellence may apply. The scholarship is valued at $4,000. One award is available annually. Apply via uOZone Online Scholarships and Bursaries by November 3 with the Financial Questionnaire. The award supports students whose promise and dedication reflect Dr. Dilip Kumar Banerji's legacy of intellectual curiosity, perseverance, and commitment to advanced education.

Graduate Biology students at the University of Ottawa who have completed at least one year and one teaching-assistant term and distinguish themselves in teaching and knowledge sharing on campus, off campus, or online. At least $3,500. Apply via uoZone by October 31 with a CV, a 250 to 500-word knowledge-sharing statement, and two recommendation letters (one from Biology faculty) sent to bioassis@uottawa.ca.

Full-time graduate students in a University of Ottawa Faculty of Science program who have distinguished themselves through research conducted as part of their program of study may receive this research scholarship. The Denis Vézina Faculty of Science Research Scholarship recognizes a graduate student whose research stands out within their program.

Full-time undergraduate or master's students at the University of Ottawa Faculty of Social Sciences in good standing who will spend up to four months in Asia volunteering or working with a Canadian or local NGO, or conducting field research, with a travel budget and proof of placement may apply. Awards range from $1,000 to $3,500 (up to $3,500). Apply through Online Scholarships and Bursaries in uoZone by November 3 with a CV, travel summary, placement proof if applicable, and a budget. The Nalini Perera Little Lotus International Mobility Scholarship supports Faculty of Social Sciences students gaining experiential learning in Asia.
