Saskatchewan Scholarships

University of Saskatchewan graduating-year students in English, Home Economics and Nutrition, or Theology who completed at least 18 credit units in the previous Regular Session may apply for the Hannon Travel Scholarships. Theology applicants follow the Hannon theology pathway (Arts and Science BA students with the required honours coursework or Philosophy honours admission, plus a theology intent statement). Up to five $7,000 scholarships are awarded. Selection is based on the merit of the travel proposal, university and community involvement, and character; academic achievement may also be considered. Travel identified in the proposal must be undertaken within one year of the award. Apply through PAWS by December 1. The scholarships were established by the late Judge J.W. Hannon in memory of his father, the Rev. James Hannon, D.D.

University of Saskatchewan undergraduate students entering third year in chemical, mechanical, or geological engineering with an interest in metallurgy and mineral processing may receive $5,000. Two awards are offered, with preference for chemical engineering students. The award recognizes academic achievement in engineering related to the mining industry. Submit a letter outlining mining-industry interest and work experience by October 1.

University of Saskatchewan students with verified Indigenous ancestry who have been Saskatchewan residents for at least 12 months, register in at least 9 credit units per semester, demonstrate financial need, and hold an average of 65% or greater. Preference may be given to students in Arts and Science, Edwards School of Business, and Engineering. Fifteen awards of $5,000, paid in two $2,500 installments (second term requires continued eligibility). Apply through the Continuing Bursaries application in PAWS.

Applicants must have completed at least 30 credit hours, be enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours, and have successfully completed EPS 100 with a grade of 75%. Preference is given to financially needy students. The bursary is worth $3,500. One award is available.

Continuing University of Regina undergraduate students in any faculty may receive this scholarship. Applicants must hold full-time status (at least 9 credit hours in each of the fall and winter semesters), be entering year two after completing a minimum of 23 credit hours, remain registered in 9 credit hours in the semester the award is paid, and hold a minimum undergraduate GPA of 75% on courses completed. Two awards of $2,500 are presented annually. Apply through the university's student awards system (SAMS).

Open to Saskatchewan residents completing a final clinical placement in Saskatchewan in a Ministry of Health high-priority health discipline who are not in a salaried clinical placement. The bursary is $2,000. Recipients complete a one-year return-in-service with a publicly funded employer in a rural or northern community. Application periods and deadlines vary by placement cycle.

Open to University of Regina students registered full time in the Faculty of Kinesiology and Health Studies, majoring in Sport and Recreation Management within the Bachelor of Sport and Recreation Studies. You need at least 24 credit hours completed, a minimum 70% CGPA, a Saskatchewan high school diploma, and demonstrated involvement in sport or recreation development in Saskatchewan. One award of $1,275 is offered. Apply with a detailed summary of no more than one page explaining your sport or recreation development work in Saskatchewan.

Self-declared Aboriginal University of Regina students enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate Kinesiology and Health Studies degree program may apply. You must demonstrate leadership in recreation, sport, physical activity, or related fields. One $1,200 award is granted. Preference goes to graduate students, then entering undergraduates, then continuing undergraduates. Apply with a leadership statement and current transcripts. Entering students qualify on admission average with at least nine fall credit hours; continuing students need a minimum 65% CGPA and at least 15 completed credit hours.

Indigenous Canadian graduate students at the University of Saskatchewan in Indian and Northern Education, Native Studies, or related Indigenous education fields may apply. Applicants should have work experience with Indigenous communities and some familiarity with an Indigenous language. The scholarship is worth $1,000 and one award is made each year. Applications are due November 1.

University of Regina undergraduate students pursuing a degree in the Faculty of Arts or Faculty of Social Work may apply. Applicants must have completed at least 30 credit hours, hold a minimum undergraduate GPA of 70%, remain registered in at least 9 credit hours in the award term, and demonstrate financial need. One award of $1,000 is available. The application requires an essay of no more than 250 words on community involvement in human rights, feminist issues, or poverty.
