British Columbia Scholarships

Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or protected persons who self-identify as Black, demonstrate financial need, meet UBC admissions requirements, and are entering a direct-entry undergraduate program from high school or another post-secondary institution without a prior degree. One-time and renewable awards of up to $80,000 are available through the Beyond Tomorrow Scholars Program. Apply via the UBC Entrance Award Application with the UBC admission application. Materials include a Description of Circumstance (maximum 1,000 words), a Parent/Guardian Form when applicable, and a Reference Form.

Doctoral students at UBC may be considered through the annual Affiliated Fellowships competition. Fellowships of $40,000 (subject to change) are awarded each year. Recipients are known as Li Tze Fong Scholars. The fellowships are made available by the University of British Columbia and the Li family in memory of Mr. Li Tze Fong.

Simon Fraser University students who play with the university pipe band, show particular promise in piping or drumming, and maintain a satisfactory academic record are eligible. One award of $2,600 is granted on recommendation of the SFU Pipe Band director.

Full-time Simon Fraser University undergraduates pursuing a bachelor's degree in the School of Environmental Science who are in good academic standing and have shown dedication to the intersection of science and the arts through volunteerism, community service, or portfolio work. Preference for students interested in contemporary arts or enrolled in a Contemporary Arts or Communication minor. One or more awards valued at $2,400. Apply with an unofficial transcript, a short statement on that intersectional work, and a work sample if appropriate. Nomination by the Director, School of Environmental Science; typically awarded in spring.

Open to a Simon Fraser University Computing Science major with demonstrated excellence in computer graphics. One $1,000 scholarship is awarded annually on the basis of academic achievement. The award is made by the Senate Undergraduate Awards Adjudication Committee upon nomination by the Director of the School of Computing Science.

Undergraduate students entering the University of Victoria directly from a secondary school in the Greater Victoria region who compete on a Vikes varsity team may apply. Recipients must meet CIS and/or NAIA eligibility requirements. Selection considers work ethic, commitment, and performance. Submit applications and a letter outlining career and athletic goals to the Director of Athletics and Recreation. One or more awards are available and the amount varies.

University of Victoria undergraduate students entering their final year of elementary education who are Canadian citizens or permanent residents and meet general bursary eligibility may apply. One or more bursaries are awarded; amounts vary. Apply through UVic Online tools by June 1 for the summer session or October 15 for the winter session.

Langara College Library and Information Technology students who have completed the first term and are enrolled in the subsequent term may apply for the Elva M. Wilson Memorial Scholarship. Applicants need high scholastic achievement, enrollment in three or more courses, and contributions to the field through publications, tutoring, or similar activities. Two awards; amount varies. Awarded in spring.

For undergraduate or graduate students in the School of Child and Youth Care or the School of Social Work. Preference for students from South Vancouver Island (south of Nanaimo, including the Gulf Islands) and for single-parent students. One or more bursaries; amount varies. Application deadlines are June 1 (summer) and October 15 (winter).

University of Victoria undergraduate Faculty of Science students with a declared major in Biology, Biochemistry, or Microbiology who demonstrate financial need through UVic's general bursary process. Preference goes to students active in student politics and/or youth community volunteering, especially Scouts Canada. Bursary amounts vary. Apply by June 1 for the summer session or October 15 for the winter session through Student Awards and Financial Aid online tools.
