Music Scholarships in Canada

Open to a student from an Alberta high school entering the first year of the Bachelor of Music program with superior academic achievement. One scholarship of $1,500 is awarded annually. Recipients are selected based on high school academic performance.

Open to Carleton University students registered in a Music program. The award goes to the student who achieved the highest standing in their first three music credits. One award of varying value is offered annually for early excellence in music studies. Faculty-selected in-course merit award; no application.

Open to third- or fourth-year UBC Vancouver Bachelor of Music students who show interest and aptitude for research in musicology. The prize is not awarded if no suitable candidate is found in a given year. The prize is $200. Recipients are chosen on the recommendation of the School of Music. No separate application. Faculty nomination selects the recipient.

A full-time student in the Bachelor of Music or Bachelor of Education (Music Education) who has demonstrated talent and achievement in instrumental music and teaching ability at the elementary or secondary level may qualify. The Senate Committee on Awards selects recipients on recommendation of the Faculty of Education. One scholarship is offered; the amount varies.

A full-time student in the Bachelor of Music (Major in Music Education) who has demonstrated special aptitude for instrumental music and teaching may qualify. Preference goes to students interested in practical instrumental arranging and orchestration. The scholarship pays $3,538. Established by Dr. Don Wright to strengthen instrumental music in schools.

University of Guelph students registered in any honours degree program with a major or minor in Music who have completed at least 10.00 credits with a cumulative average of at least 70%, and who completed MUSC*3510 (Applied Music) with the highest grade above 80%, may be considered for the Friends of Music In-Course Scholarship in Applied Music. One award of $600.

Deserving UBC School of Music students may be nominated. Scholarships from this endowment total $31,250; the per-recipient amount varies. They were endowed by the Estate of Norah Mansell. Music was an important part of Ms. Mansell's life; she was a member of the Bach Choir and Cantata Singers. Awards are made on the recommendation of the School of Music and, for graduate students, in consultation with the Faculty of Graduate Studies. There is no separate student application.
