Computer Engineering Scholarships in Canada

Western University students enrolled in a computer engineering option in Electrical and Computer Engineering, or in the concurrent Engineering and Computer Science program, who demonstrate financial need may receive this award. Up to two awards of up to $5,000 are available. Submit a financial assistance application through Student Center by September 30. Recipients are selected on leadership potential and other qualities likely to lead to distinguished achievement.

Awarded to students entering the Edward S. Rogers Sr. Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Toronto. The award value varies. Recipients are chosen on the basis of academic achievement. Extracurricular activities, including a focus on design, may also be considered. Students are automatically considered on admission; no separate application is required.

Convocating Canadian citizens or permanent residents with the highest academic standing in Computer Engineering based on combined third- and fourth-year grades (minimum 3.5) may receive this medal. The university may choose not to award it. One medal is offered annually.

For an undergraduate student entering third year of the UBC Bachelor of Applied Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering who achieved top 10% academic standing in second year and demonstrated significant contributions or leadership in student associations, community service, and/or cultural activities. A $2,200 award endowed by Dr. James (Jim) Yan (B.A.Sc. 1969, M.A.Sc. 1971, Ph.D. 1977). Made on the recommendation of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. No separate application. Dr. Yan endowed the award in appreciation of the education he received at UBC.

Centre for Digital Media Master of Digital Media applicants with a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field who show exceptional achievement and innovation may receive this award (up to $20,000; 2 available). Selection is based on application materials during the MDM admissions process. No separate scholarship application is required.

Outstanding students who have completed at least one year of study in Electrical, Computer, or Software Engineering and hold high academic standing may be considered. Preference is given to Canadian citizens or permanent residents with an interest in wireless telecommunications or communications. Additional consideration is given to teamwork and leadership. Scholarships are valued at $2,000. The administering university is not specified in available directory sources.

UNB Fredericton campus students in the Electrical or Software Engineering programs whose senior undergraduate project best displays outstanding technical merit. Two $1,000 prizes are awarded annually on the recommendation of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering: one in any concentration and one in the power and renewable energy concentration. No separate application. Funded by friends of John Murphy, an Electronics Technologist who served the university with distinction for 26 years (1968-1994).

For UBC Electrical and Computer Engineering undergraduate students. Scholarships totalling $14,750 endowed by family, friends, and colleagues in memory of Martin Sikes (1968-2007). Amount per student varies. Made on the recommendation of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. No separate application. At UBC, Martin was involved in extracurricular activities including the Electrical Engineering Student Union. After graduation he worked in the video games industry as a businessman and developer.

Graduate students in Electrical and Computer Engineering at UBC Vancouver may be considered for this fellowship. A $17,000 fellowship endowed in memory of J.K. Zee by family and friends may be held by the same recipient more than once. The award is made on department recommendation in consultation with the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies. There is no separate application.

UBC students in Computer or Electrical Engineering, or in the Electrical option in Engineering Physics, with interest and achievement in communication system design or integrated circuit design. Selection is based on academic achievement, leadership, and entrepreneurship. Five awards of $5,700 each (awards totalling $28,500). No separate student application. Awards are made on the recommendation of the Head of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. The endowment was established by Kevin Huscroft, a founder of PMC-Sierra, Inc., and enhanced by Greg Aasen and other founders.
