About this scholarship

Open to SFU Philosophy honours, major, or minor students in good academic standing and enrolled full time. The award recognizes an excellent philosophical essay written while the student was enrolled as an undergraduate at SFU, with emphasis on originality and research promise.

Valued at a minimum of $500. Faculty members in the Philosophy department nominate students; nominations go to Financial Aid and Awards by early to mid-May so the award can be made before June Convocation. The Senate Undergraduate Awards Adjudication Committee makes the award on the recommendation of the Philosophy Department Awards Committee chair.

What else to submit

  • Be in good academic standing and enrolled full time at SFU as either an honours, major, or minor in Philosophy
  • The essay must have been written while enrolled at SFU as an undergraduate
  • The essay must demonstrate academic and research excellence at the undergraduate level, with particular emphasis on originality and promise of ability in research
  • Any faculty member in the Philosophy department can nominate an undergraduate student for this award (faculty nomination rather than direct student application)
  • Annual award given in the Summer term for essays written in the previous academic year
  • Good academic standing.
