About this scholarship
The Philo Sherman Bennett Prize, established by Philo Sherman Bennett of New Haven, Connecticut, is offered for the best essay discussing the principles of free government. The competition is open only to Harvard College members of the senior class. Each competitor selects a subject within the prize scope, subject to approval by the Committee on Prizes in Political Science. All eligible senior honors theses are considered without special application. Essays previously published, presented for academic recognition elsewhere, or awarded other prizes are inadmissible. No prize is granted unless the essay is judged worthy of publication. Recent awards have been six hundred dollars.
