University of Ottawa PhD candidates from year two onward (Canadian citizens, permanent residents, protected persons, or international students) registered full time with satisfactory academic progress who will conduct research outside Canada for at least twelve weeks. Research in the student's country of origin is generally not financed unless presence there is absolutely required. Students in a cotutelle program admitted before May 2023 are not eligible; those admitted as of May 2023 with uOttawa as home university are eligible.
One non-renewable $4,000 award. Competitions close March 1 and October 1.
Apply before travel through the Online Scholarships and Bursaries portal with a CV, non-official transcript, supervisor recommendation letter, one-page research plan, detailed budget, and host invitation when available (or supervisor details of the stay). A one-page summary report is due within one month of return.
The PhD Student International Research Scholarship (Mobility) awards $4,000.
The deadline is October 1, 2026. Applications submitted after the deadline are typically not considered, so plan to finish early.
