About this scholarship
Because Hillsdale College does not accept federal or state aid, Michigan residents who would otherwise receive State of Michigan Competitive Scholarship or Tuition Grant funds may instead receive a Michigan Independence Replacement Grant from the college's private resources. These grants are outright gifts that need not be repaid and are awarded as part of a need-based financial aid package determined after the Confidential Family Financial Statement review. Eligibility follows the student's demonstrated need relative to Hillsdale's cost of attendance minus expected family contribution. Awards help Michigan students access Hillsdale without forfeiting the college's independence from government funding. Students must apply for admission, complete the CFFS, and maintain satisfactory academic progress to retain aid in subsequent years.
