About this scholarship
New science fiction and fantasy illustrators worldwide may enter the L. Ron Hubbard Illustrators of the Future Contest. Entrants must not have been professionally published beyond contest limits, and AI-generated art is not accepted.
Three winners are selected each quarter, each receiving $500. From quarterly winners, one annual grand-prize recipient receives the Golden Brush Award and an additional $5,000. Entry is free, and entrants retain publication rights.
Submit three original illustrations per quarter for anonymous judging by professional artists. Quarterly submission deadlines are December 31, March 31, June 30, and September 30.

What else to submit
- Three original science fiction or fantasy illustrations, each with a different subject
- Cover sheet or identifying information for each work
- Submit three (3) original science fiction or fantasy illustrations created solely by the entrant, each featuring a different subject (color or black & white)
- AI-generated art is not accepted
- Open to new/amateur artists not professionally published/paid for more than three black-and-white story illustrations or more than one process-color painting
- Each work requires a cover sheet/identifying info: artist's legal name, address, telephone number, e-mail address, and an identifying title
- Electronic: min 300 dpi, 5x7 to 8.5x11 inches, max 10 MB, .jpg/.jpeg only
- Free to enter; entrants retain all publication rights
- Illustrations must be created solely by the entrant; AI-generated art is not accepted.
- Electronic submissions must be JPG/JPEG, at least 300 dpi, 5x7 to 8.5x11 inches, and no more than 10 MB.
