About this scholarship

Currently registered JD students graduating in the eligible academic year at the University of Toronto Faculty of Law can be nominated for the Justice Rosalie Silberman Abella Prize.

The prize is presented annually to one graduating law student at each Canadian law school. Catalog amount is listed as varies; the Faculty of Law page states each winner receives $1,000. The prize goes to the student most likely to positively influence equity and social justice in Canada or globally upon graduation.

Faculty, staff, and students may nominate (including self-nominations with the student's permission). Nominees provide a CV and a vision statement on equity and social justice; nominators submit a short nomination statement.

The Royal Society of Canada established the prize in 2021 to honour Justice Abella's commitment to equality and equity.
