About this scholarship
Outstanding domestic undergraduate students entering UBC Okanagan directly from secondary schools, or transferring directly from other colleges and universities in Canada or abroad, may be considered for these renewable entrance awards. Recipients must be academically qualified and would not be able to attend UBC without financial assistance. Consideration is also given to leadership, community service, and extracurricular achievement.
Renewable entrance awards totalling $40,000 are available from an endowment established by an estate gift from Christina Murphy Allison (1939-2018) in memory of her sister Josephine Murphy (1920-1987). Subject to continued academic standing, awards are renewed for up to three additional years of study or until the first undergraduate degree is obtained (whichever is shorter). The Centennial Scholars Entrance Award Committee recommends recipients.
Josephine was born in Liverpool, England, to an Irish family. The Murphys immigrated to the United States in the 1930s before moving to British Columbia, where Josephine lived for the rest of her life.
