About this scholarship

College juniors or seniors who are U.S. citizens (or from American Samoa), in the upper quarter of their class, and committed to careers in government or public service may be nominated for the Harry S. Truman Scholarship by their institution's Truman Faculty Representative.

Up to 65 Truman Scholars each receive up to $30,000 for graduate or professional school, plus leadership development activities and special opportunities for internships and employment with the federal government.

Applicants must be nominated; self-nominations are not accepted. The Truman Scholarship Foundation is the federal memorial to President Harry S. Truman and selects students with demonstrated leadership, public service commitment, and potential for graduate study success.
