Faculty of Liberal Arts and Professional Studies students at York University pursuing a first degree may apply. You must have completed at least 18 Faculty of Liberal Arts and Professional Studies credits (including six credits of general education) with a minimum overall GPA of 7.0 and be majoring in Humanities, Religious Studies, Social Science, Sociology, Social Work, or Women's Studies.
Two bursaries of $700 are awarded annually. Preference goes to students who demonstrate financial need, are first in their family to attend university, are single parents, are disabled, or are Indigenous.
To apply, complete and submit your FAAS profile with attention to the financial section. Recipients are selected from applicants who meet the award criteria and demonstrate financial need.
The award was established by the former Atkinson Students' Association and friends to honour Professor George Hopton, a retired Professor of Humanities at York University, ordained minister of the Presbyterian Church, and former Master of Atkinson.
