Scholarships at University of Maryland, Baltimore County

The Meyerhoff Scholars Program at UMBC provides four-year merit scholarships to high-achieving students pursuing doctoral study in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics who are committed to advancing minorities in STEM fields. In-state awards range from $5,000 to $15,000 per year and out-of-state awards from $10,000 to $22,000 per year toward tuition, mandatory fees, and other expenses. Applicants need a minimum 3.0 high school GPA, U.S. citizenship or permanent residency, and must major in an approved STEM discipline. The final application deadline is January 15 with a December 1 priority deadline.

The Cyber Scholars Program at UMBC prepares students for cybersecurity careers and supports women and underrepresented groups in technology. First-year, transfer, and continuing students of all genders who plan to major in computer engineering, computer science, or information systems with an interest in cybersecurity may apply with at least a 3.25 GPA. In-state awards range from $5,000 to $15,000 per year and out-of-state awards from $10,000 to $22,000 per year for up to four years. First-year applications are due January 15 and transfer applications March 1.

The Linehan Artist Scholars Program at UMBC supports talented first-year students who will major in dance, theatre, music, or visual arts and distinguish themselves academically and artistically. In-state students may receive $5,000 to $15,000 per year and out-of-state students $10,000 to $22,000 per year for four years. Scholars participate in a first-year seminar, attend performances in major cities, receive summer research support, and live with other arts students. Selection includes audition or portfolio review by the relevant arts department. The application deadline is January 31.

The Sherman Teacher Scholars Program at UMBC prepares culturally responsive educators for Baltimore City and similar high-needs urban schools. First-year, transfer, upper-class, and graduate students pursuing teaching certification in early childhood, elementary, or secondary education may apply. In-state awards range from $5,000 to $15,000 per year and out-of-state awards from $10,000 to $22,000 per year. Scholars receive coaching, field experiences, and cohort support while completing an undergraduate certificate or master's in education. First-year applications are due January 15 and fall transfer applications April 15.

The Darrel W. and Dorothy J. Anderson Endowed Scholarship at UMBC supports one theatre major each year based on financial need. Applicants must be UMBC undergraduates who are not current Linehan Artist Scholar recipients, have spent at least two semesters in the Theatre Department, hold a minimum 3.0 GPA, and have completed at least 24 semester hours at UMBC. One endowed scholarship is awarded annually with amounts that fluctuate depending on funding. Students may receive the award a maximum of two times. Applications are submitted through Scholarship Retriever during the spring theatre scholarship cycle.

The UMBC Alumni Endowed General Scholarship supports outstanding undergraduate students through funding raised by the Alumni Association board of directors. Eligible applicants must meet criteria published on the individual scholarship page, including having a current FAFSA on file with the Financial Aid Office, which makes international students ineligible for the general award. Award amounts vary from year to year and are credited in equal halves to fall and spring semesters. Applications are accepted only through Scholarship Retriever, and recipients must submit a thank-you letter upon selection.
