Scholarships at University of California, Santa Barbara

The Tom Rogers Scholarship at UC Santa Barbara awards one or two Environmental Studies or Hydrologic Sciences majors $2,500 to $5,000 each for efforts embodying civic responsibility and environmental stewardship. Established to honor former Santa Barbara civil servant Tom Rogers, the scholarship enables students to pursue academic or environmental activism they could not otherwise afford, covering tuition, fees, living expenses, books, or project costs. Applicants need a minimum 3.0 GPA, must plan to remain enrolled at UCSB for at least three quarters after receiving the award, and apply during the annual February scholarship cycle with a report due before graduation.

The Barker Scholarship for Unpaid Environmental Internships at UC Santa Barbara provides one or two awards of $1,250 per year to declared Environmental Studies or Hydrology majors of at least sophomore standing with a minimum 2.75 GPA. Funded by the Coeta and Donald Barker Foundation, the scholarship reduces financial barriers so students can pursue unpaid or underpaid environmental internships for hands-on field experience. Disbursement requires securing an internship and enrolling in at least two units of ENV S 192. Applications are due at the end of February each year, with winners announced in early April. Recipients submit a one-page internship report before graduating.

The Larry Adams Scholarship in Public Policy at UC Santa Barbara honors former Professor Larry Adams by supporting political science majors working as interns in a local government agency ten to twelve hours per week. Applicants must be in residence at UCSB for the following academic year and submit applications to polsci-admin@ucsb.edu by quarterly deadlines of November 30, March 8, or May 17. The award recognizes the value of local government internships for students preparing for public policy careers. One scholarship is awarded per cycle from the department's undergraduate scholarship fund.
