Scholarships at Saint Vincent College

The Arnold D. and Winifred W. Palmer Scholarship provides three thousand dollars per year to a Saint Vincent College student who is a graduate of Greater Latrobe Senior High School and demonstrates exemplary academic and leadership skills. Established through support from the Palmer family and the Arnold D. and Winifred W. Palmer Foundation, the award honors the legacy of Latrobe natives Arnold and Winnie Palmer. Applicants submit an essay to financialaid@stvincent.edu by April 10 addressing familiarity with the Palmers' lives and how their example can serve as a model for the student's future plans.

The SVC Honors Scholarship provides two thousand dollars annually to students accepted and enrolled in SVC Honors, Saint Vincent College's honors program offering specialized academic pathways including Great Books, Benedictine Leadership Studies, Science Faith and Technology, and SEEK Scholars. After a common freshman year, students choose or design a pathway with faculty mentorship. Applicants must apply for admission and be accepted to Saint Vincent before applying to SVC Honors. Only one honors-related financial award may be received even if a student participates in multiple honors opportunities.

The Benedictine Pastors' Award provides two thousand dollars per year to Saint Vincent College students who are registered members of parishes staffed by Benedictine monks of Saint Vincent Archabbey. Students must have been members of a qualifying parish for at least one year before starting at Saint Vincent. A letter from the pastor verifying membership is due by February 1 for initial eligibility. Annual re-application is not required once verified. The award supports students connected to Benedictine parish communities affiliated with the Saint Vincent Archabbey.

The Wimmer Scholarship Competition is an annual general-knowledge examination for graduating high school seniors admitted to Saint Vincent College. One first-place winner receives full tuition, room, and board for eight semesters; four additional winners receive full tuition for eight semesters. To register, students must apply for admission, hold a minimum 3.75 cumulative GPA, and submit SAT scores of 1250 or above, ACT 26 or above, or CLT 88 or above unless exempt with six AP courses. Winners are automatically placed in the SVC Honors Program.

The Dr. Vinh-Linh Nguyen Award for Excellence in Faith and Academics provides net tuition and room and board to two full-time undergraduate nursing students each year at Saint Vincent College. Incoming students with the highest academic merit as measured by GPA and test scores are selected. Eligible applicants must be practicing Catholics and submit a letter of good standing from their parish pastor. Students must apply and be accepted into the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program by March 1 and submit the pastoral letter by the same deadline.
