Scholarships at Rowan University

The David Cromie Communication Scholarship honors the memory of David Cromie, former professor and chair of the College of Communication at Rowan University. One scholarship of $650 per year is awarded to a single incoming freshman or transfer student in the Ric Edelman College of Communication and Creative Arts. Eligible students must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher and will be invited to submit a 250-to-300-word essay for consideration. The award supports new communication students entering Rowan and is administered by the college scholarship committee.

The Edelman Scholars program supports incoming first-year students accepted to Rowan University with a major in the Ric Edelman College of Communication and Creative Arts who demonstrate financial need through FAFSA and university data. Selected scholars receive substantial aid toward full cost of attendance including tuition, books, fees, and board or meals, plus on-campus housing, internships, work study, professional development, and peer mentoring. Eligible students are invited in March to submit an application and brief essay, and finalists interview with the selection committee. Awards are announced by April 30, and timely graduates receive post-graduation launch funds.

The Martin Luther King Scholarship is one of four American Federation of Teachers-funded awards at Rowan University, with two designated for College of Humanities and Social Sciences students. It is awarded to an EOF, MAP, or Flack Mentoring Program student, or to a student enrolled in the Africana Studies major or Africana Studies concentration. Applications are submitted through Scholarship Universe and are typically due February 28. Recipients are selected by a university committee based on eligibility and application responses.

The Gary Hunter Scholarship acknowledges contributions of Dr. Gary Hunter, former chair of the History Department at Rowan University. The recipient must be a rising senior History major with a 3.0 cumulative GPA who is matriculated, enrolled full time, and in good standing with the university. Students apply through Scholarship Universe by the posted deadline. The award supports an outstanding continuing undergraduate completing a History degree at Rowan and is selected with History Department input.

The Christopher DeMayo Endowed Scholarship in Accounting supports a full-time accounting major at Rowan University. Preference is given to a first-generation rising junior or senior with a 3.3 GPA and demonstrated financial need. Students apply through Scholarship Universe during Rowan's annual scholarship application cycle and must be enrolled full time in the current and upcoming academic year. The award honors Christopher DeMayo and helps continuing business students complete an accounting degree at Rowan.

The Becker Scholarship is awarded to a Political Science major at Rowan University who excels academically and plans to attend graduate school or law school after graduation. First preference goes to students accepted into a PhD program intending to specialize in Constitutional Law. Second preference is for students accepted into an ABA-accredited law school, and third preference is for students accepted into a Political Science PhD program regardless of specialization. The Political Science department chair makes the selection from eligible graduating or continuing majors.
