Scholarships at Rhode Island College

The Virginia A. and Anthony Broccoli Endowed Scholarship helps rising Rhode Island College seniors who face a financial hold that would prevent them from completing their bachelor's degree. Valued up to five thousand dollars for the fall and spring semesters of the senior year, the award is administered through the RIC Foundation with no cap on the number of students who may receive it in a given year. The scholarship was established through a planned gift from the Broccolis, longtime supporters of RIC students, to remove graduation barriers for seniors with unmet financial need.

The Rhode Island Medical Imaging Endowed Scholarship awards two thousand dollars each fall to a deserving full-time medical imaging major at Rhode Island College. Established through a twenty-five-thousand-dollar gift from Rhode Island Medical Imaging, the merit-based fund supports students in the Lifespan School of Medical Imaging joint program who maintain a 3.0 GPA, demonstrate community service, and submit an essay explaining why they wish to pursue a career in medical imaging. The scholarship is administered through the RIC Foundation and helps students persist in a high-demand diagnostic imaging field with strong job placement rates.

The Katherine Cross-Das and Deben Das Endowed Scholarship for The Anchor supports Rhode Island College students connected to the student newspaper where Kate Cross-Das served as reporter and co-editor during her undergraduate years. Established through the RIC Foundation, the scholarship awards at least one thousand dollars annually to a deserving student involved with The Anchor. Applicants are considered through the Foundation's single online scholarship application, which automatically matches eligible students to donor funds. The award preserves Cross-Das's journalism and campus leadership legacy for current RIC students.

The Anne and Bob De Stefano Undergraduate Research Program funds departmental honors projects at Rhode Island College in which a full-time undergraduate, under faculty direction, completes two semesters of approved research or creative work. Applicants need at least forty-five credit hours and a 3.0 overall GPA, plus departmental honors project approval from their faculty adviser. Awards normally do not exceed five hundred dollars per semester and are reimbursed for eligible project expenses such as materials, travel, conference fees, or summer research support. Applications are due October 21 for fall review and March 1 for spring review.

The Eleanor M. McMahon Honors Scholarships recognize outstanding rising juniors and outstanding graduating seniors participating in Rhode Island College's General Education Honors Program. Awards are made annually based on honors program participation, academic achievement, and progress toward honors requirements. Continuing honors students who did not receive honors scholarships as freshmen may also apply to the Director of Honors in April for the following academic year if funds are available, with a minimum 3.25 cumulative GPA required to apply. Most honors scholarships renew for up to eight semesters when recipients maintain a 3.0 GPA and full-time status.

The Joseph McCormick Endowed Scholarship was established in 2021 for Rhode Island College students who aspire to pursue careers in special education. It honors the late Professor Emeritus of Special Education Joseph McCormick and his wife Theodora McCormick for their dedication to the field. Special education students complete one AwardSpring application to be considered for this and other department endowed scholarships. Awards support currently enrolled undergraduates and graduate students in the special education program who meet donor and department eligibility criteria identified through the centralized application.

The Professor Helen Salzberg Endowed Scholarship at Rhode Island College assists first-generation students pursuing degrees in math education. Created by alumnus Frederick Harrison to honor Professor Helen Salzberg and support students following a similar path into teaching mathematics, the fund is administered through the Rhode Island College Foundation. Recipients are identified through the Foundation's centralized online scholarship application, which matches students to endowed funds based on first-generation status, field of study, and other donor criteria. The scholarship supports RIC students preparing for careers as mathematics educators in Rhode Island schools.
