Scholarships at North Carolina State University

The Rhett and Link Engineering Innovation Scholarship, funded by NC State alumni Rhett McLaughlin and Link Neal, supports NC State engineering sophomores and juniors with two years of coursework remaining who demonstrate creativity and innovation in engineering, sciences, arts, entertainment, or their intersection. The award provides up to $25,000 per year toward the cost of attendance. Applicants submit a 500-word essay and a two-minute video essay showcasing their innovative work. Eligible majors include College of Engineering programs plus biological engineering, paper science and engineering, and textile engineering.

The Textile Pioneer Scholarship Program provides need-based support to exceptional NC State Wilson College of Textiles students from non-metropolitan areas of North Carolina, including many first-generation college attendees with strong interest in the textile industry. Scholars receive a minimum of $14,000 per year for four years plus up to $4,000 in enrichment funds for study abroad and leadership activities. Students apply through the unified first-year Wilson College textiles scholarship application in PackAssist after admission and counselor or self endorsement.

The Transformational Scholarships Program recruits first-year NC State College of Education students from Eastern North Carolina who plan to return to the region as teachers. Each cohort of 20 scholars receives $10,000 per year for up to four years, plus additional need-based support and professional development funding for study abroad and conferences. Candidates must be admitted NC State first-year students with demonstrated financial need, Eastern North Carolina residency, and a commitment to equitable education and the teaching profession. FAFSA is due January 31 for candidates.

Current or admitted full-time NC State undergraduates in the Department of Forestry and Environmental Resources (FER) may apply for departmental Academic Scholarships based on merit or financial need. Eligible majors include Environmental Sciences, Environmental Technology and Management, Forest Management, Natural Resources, and Fisheries, Wildlife and Conservation Biology. For double majors, the first major must be in FER. Incoming freshmen need a 3.75 GPA and an SAT of 1250 or ACT of 25. Current undergraduates and transfer students need a 3.5 GPA. Award amounts vary. Academic scholarships may be renewed for the minimum additional semesters needed to finish the current major (up to three additional years) if the recipient stays in the major and keeps a 3.5+ GPA. These departmental scholarships operate independently from university-wide merit aid, college-wide programs, and federal, state, and private aid.

The e5x Entrepreneurship Scholarship, established by NC State textiles engineering alumna JiNan Glasgow George, recognizes NC State student entrepreneurs who show initiative, determination, a Think and Do attitude, and commitment to entrepreneurial excellence. Awards support undergraduates with outstanding achievements in entrepreneurship activities. Students apply through PackAssist; the entrepreneurship office reviews applications in early February each cycle. The scholarship name reflects an expected fivefold return on investment in future student impact.

The Directors Scholarship supports an undergraduate student enrolled or accepted in any College of Education program at NC State. Selection weighs academic excellence, demonstrated financial need, and leadership through extracurricular achievements. Preferred candidates have a cumulative high school GPA of at least 3.5, a combined SAT score of 1100 with no section below 500, or an ACT score of 23 or higher, with preference for North Carolina residents. The award renews while the student maintains at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA. Apply through PackAssist after admission to NC State.
