Scholarships at Messiah University

Incoming first-year or transfer students admitted to Messiah University with competitive history in supported esports titles (League of Legends, Valorant, Overwatch, Smash Ultimate, Rocket League) may apply for Christian Leadership in Esports Scholarships. Awards range from $1,000 to $5,000 per academic year and are renewable with team commitment and satisfactory academic progress. Submit an application, then interview with the head esports coach. Preference goes to students with high-ranking competitive play, positive team-oriented attitudes, and initiative to grow as Christian leaders in the esports industry.

The Ernest L. Boyer, Sr. Teacher Scholarship recognizes an exemplary Messiah University teacher certification student with outstanding service, academic achievement, and the personal qualities Dr. Boyer identified as essential for effective teaching. One three thousand dollar award is made to a junior-level student in any certification program who is admitted to the Teacher Education Program with at least forty-five Messiah credits completed. Applicants submit a resume, essay on teaching ideals, and application by noon on the last Thursday in February. Finalists interview before written verification by May 1. This is an add-on award that supplements existing financial aid.

The Suzanne Joy Johnson Endowed Scholarship honors a Messiah alumna who served as an exemplary Maryland teacher and principal. One junior teacher certification student is selected each year, with strong preference for PreK-4 and grades 4-8 majors who demonstrate dynamic interpersonal skills and commitment to professional preparation. The award of approximately thirteen hundred dollars is split evenly between fall and spring of the senior year. Applicants need a minimum 3.6 cumulative GPA, Teacher Education Program admission, and at least forty-five Messiah credits. Submit application, resume, and leadership essay by noon on the last Thursday in February.

The Murk-Hayes Endowed Award honors educators Don Murk and Steve Hayes and recognizes a Messiah University teacher certification candidate with demonstrated interest and capacity for serving K-12 educators in urban contexts. The award of approximately one thousand dollars is split between fall and spring of the senior year. Applicants must be enrolled in the Teacher Education Program in good standing with senior status when the award is received. Submit application, resume, and a 500-word essay on urban education and social justice by noon on the last Thursday in February. This is an add-on award that supplements existing financial aid.
