Scholarships at Mercer University

The Certificate of Achievement and Service Excellence (CASE) Scholarship awards five hundred dollars to high school sophomores and juniors who demonstrate a 3.5 GPA or higher and sustained service involvement, then enroll in Mercer's residential undergraduate program on the Macon campus. Mercer University participates in the Army ROTC scholarship program, which can include room and board support for cadets attending the Macon campus. The Griffin B. Bell Award for Community Service was established by Mercer's Board of Trustees using a national trusteeship award presented to Judge Griffin B. Bell, a longtime Mercer trustee. Each year Mercer presents this award to deserving graduating students from among the university's schools and colleges who exemplify community service during their studies. Recipients must have improved the lives of others through dedication and commitment and contributed meaningfully to the university or broader community. The award honors Judge Bell's distinguished service to higher education and is administered by Mercer's Division of Student Affairs alongside other coveted annual Mercerian awards.

The Louie D. Newton General Excellence Medal is presented to the graduating Mercer undergraduate who best exemplifies scholastic achievement, personal integrity, service to the campus community, and commitment to spiritual values. Named for Dr. Newton, a former Mercer professor, Christian journalist, pastor, and denominational leader, the medal requires candidates to have completed their final two years of academic study in residency on the Mercer-Macon campus. Evaluation weighs scholastic achievement and personal qualities equally, including integrity, campus and community service, and spiritual commitment. Paid community service may be evaluated individually. The award recognizes holistic excellence at graduation.

The Nathan Deal Scholarship supports Georgia residents with strong ties to rural Georgia who are enrolled or accepted in Mercer's four-year MD program at the School of Medicine. Approximately seven new scholars are selected annually through an application cycle opening each January and closing at the end of February. The scholarship covers eighty-five to one hundred percent of tuition for up to four academic years and includes rural health leadership development. After residency, scholars must practice full-time for four continuous years in an approved medically underserved rural Georgia county in a primary care core specialty and accept Medicaid patients.
