Scholarships at Manchester University

The Donald B. Miller Student Research Award compensates Manchester University undergraduates majoring in chemistry or biology-chemistry for a summer undergraduate research experience of two hundred to four hundred hours. Awards range from two thousand two hundred to four thousand four hundred dollars at eleven dollars per hour before taxes for approved research between May and August prior to graduation. Applicants submit a personal statement, résumé, and faculty recommendation by the April deadline. Off-campus research is eligible, but on-campus Manchester positions receive priority. Recipients present their work at the Manchester University Student Research Symposium.

The Miller Study Abroad Scholarship at Manchester University aids full-time undergraduates planning to study abroad for a year, semester, or January Session. Ed and Martha Miller established the fund for students interested in international cultures. Any enrolled Manchester undergraduate may apply during the annual February study-away scholarship cycle, with preference for students majoring in the natural and health sciences. Awards typically range from five hundred to fifteen hundred dollars and are paid in addition to a student's regular financial aid package beginning July 1 of the award year.

The Kauffman Award supports Manchester University undergraduates who study away internationally or in approved U.S. off-campus programs during their undergraduate career. Established in honor of Manchester graduate Bruce Kauffman, the award helps students who could not otherwise afford study away due to financial constraints. All Manchester undergraduate students may apply during the annual February study-away scholarship cycle; preference goes to strong academic students in the humanities. Awards normally range from five hundred to fifteen hundred dollars and are disbursed in addition to regular financial aid.

The Allen C. Deeter Study Away Scholarship enables Manchester University undergraduates to undertake cross-cultural study away experiences they could not otherwise afford. Preference is given in order to year-long international programs, programs requiring mastery of a language other than English, cross-cultural internships, short-term off-campus travel courses, and short-term language immersion programs. All continuing Manchester undergraduates apply through the single annual study-away scholarship application sent in February. Awards normally range from five hundred to fifteen hundred dollars beyond regular aid and can be applied to January travel courses or semester programs.
