Scholarships at Georgetown University

Established in 1986, the Steven de Balmaseda Champion Memorial Scholarship for Study Abroad helps needy Georgetown undergraduates who wish to study abroad. Recipients are selected by the Georgetown Office of International Programs from students with demonstrated financial need who plan to participate in approved overseas study. The award reduces financial barriers to global learning experiences that are part of Georgetown's undergraduate education. Students should work with the Office of International Programs and financial aid office to learn how to be considered for this study-abroad support.

The Maguire Foundation provides last-dollar scholarship support through Georgetown to students graduating from designated Philadelphia-area high schools for four years of undergraduate matriculation. Maguire Scholars selected by their institutions must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and remain active in extracurricular activities or community service. The scholarship closes remaining financial need after other aid. Interested students from partner high schools should work with their guidance office and Georgetown financial aid to confirm institutional nomination procedures and eligibility for this multi-year award.

The E.J. McCarthy Tours Summer Study Abroad Scholarship is awarded each year to Georgetown undergraduates enrolled in the Georgetown-sponsored summer study abroad program in Tours, France. Applications are available from the French Department. Awards are based on academic merit and financial need, helping students afford intensive summer language and culture study in France. Undergraduates accepted into the Tours summer program should request application information from the French Department to be considered for this seasonal study-abroad scholarship.

This scholarship fund was created by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin-Said of Oman to provide scholarships to selected Arabic majors at Georgetown University. Further information is available from the Office of the Dean of the Georgetown University Faculty of Languages and Linguistics or the Arabic Department. The award supports undergraduates pursuing Arabic language and culture studies. Interested Arabic majors should contact those offices to learn application requirements and selection criteria for this named language scholarship.

Bellarmine Scholarships are awarded to eligible Georgetown undergraduates nominated by their Jesuit high school who ranked first in their graduating class and demonstrate financial need for scholarship assistance. Candidates are nominated by the Office of Undergraduate Admissions based on exceptionally distinguished high school records. If no financial need is demonstrated as an entering freshman, the nominee may receive an honorary one-year non-renewable $1,000 Bellarmine award instead. For need-based recipients, the scholarship replaces standard loan and work-study portions of the aid package.
