Scholarships at Gemological Institute of America

The GIA Opportunity Scholarship is a need- and program-based award for students enrolling in an on-campus program at the Carlsbad or New York campus. Eligible recipients receive varying amounts up to $15,000 depending on program cost and calculated need, and total aid including federal, state, employer, and student resources cannot exceed tuition, fees, and books. No separate scholarship application is required; students file a FAFSA and work with GIA Financial Assistance to determine eligibility. Awards are credited directly to the recipient's GIA account when funds are available.

GIA's Military Scholarship reduces tuition for veterans, active-duty service members, and eligible spouses or dependents whose military benefits do not fully cover tuition, fees, and books at the Carlsbad campus, New York campus, or online programs. Recipients may receive varying amounts up to $5,000 depending on program cost, not exceeding total charges. No separate scholarship application is required, but applicants must file FAFSA and provide a DD-214 or service verification plus a dependent eligibility statement when applicable. The Beatrice Shipley Scholarship honors the co-founder of GIA and the American Gem Society and provides tuition for one AGS member to complete the on-campus Graduate Gemologist program at GIA. The award is funded by a GIA Endowment Fund grant and includes the AGS Way course component administered by AGS. Eligible recipients must meet AGS membership requirements and application criteria set by AGS education staff.
