Scholarships at Florida International University

The Coconut Grove Arts Festival Visual Arts Scholarship supports Art and Art History students at Florida International University who participate in the Emerging Artist Mentor Program. Recipients receive $3,000 during the academic year and must be enrolled during the awarding fall and spring terms. Applicants submit five to seven images, video of works, or a portfolio link plus a written artist statement about their creative process and interest in the mentor program. U.S. citizens, permanent residents, or F-1 visa international students in good academic standing may apply through FIU AcademicWorks when applications open March 1 through March 15.

The Rebecca M. Salokar Scholarship benefits FIU undergraduates in the Department of Politics and International Relations who are pursuing a pre-law course of study and planning to attend FIU College of Law. Eligible applicants must be full-time political science or international relations majors on track to graduate in the current spring or following summer semester and must have applied to FIU College of Law. The $1,000 award is based on merit, need, and community commitment. Applicants submit a resume, unofficial transcript, 750-word statement, and evidence of law school application by June 6 through FIU AcademicWorks.

The Gus Amaya Memorial Scholarship honors a long-time FIU communication adjunct who taught business writing, creative writing, presentation skills, and film studies for more than twenty years. One $500 scholarship is awarded each fall and spring semester to a deserving Communication Arts major who holds at least a 3.0 overall GPA and is a member of the department's honor society. Selection is made by the faculty advisor for the honors society and the Chair of Communication Arts. Students apply through FIU AcademicWorks by completing the general application and selecting appropriate communication scholarship opportunities.

The Elaine Gordon Scholarship in Women's Studies honors former Florida legislator Elaine Gordon and supports FIU undergraduates in the College of Arts, Sciences and Education who major in or earn a certificate in women's and gender studies. Applicants must have completed or be enrolled in at least nine credit hours of women's studies coursework and maintain a 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA. Students apply through the FIU Scholarship Search portal when the opportunity is posted. The award has supported students since 1990 and recognizes commitment to women's rights and gender equity studies at Florida International University.
