Scholarships at Flagler College

The Florida Minority Teacher Scholarship provides four thousand dollars per year to minority students pursuing teaching careers in Florida. Eligible applicants must be African-American, Asian-American, Hispanic-American, or Native American; Florida residents; juniors or seniors accepted into the William F. Blois Education Program at Flagler College. Preference is given to community college transfer students. Applications are obtained from and submitted to the Flagler College Education Department in the spring semester. A committee recommends recipients to the college president for nomination to the State.

Established in 2012 by the William Randolph Hearst Foundations, this endowed fund increases enrollment of African-American students at Flagler College. The Hearst Foundations support exemplary institutions preparing students for global society. To qualify, a student must be an African-American United States resident who intends to permanently reside in the United States after completing studies. Continuing students apply through the institutional scholarship portal during February; new freshmen are considered by committee without a separate application.

Michael and Nicole Andres established this scholarship in 2001; Michael is a 1987 Flagler graduate and Alumni Board member who was a Lewis-Wiley Scholar and varsity basketball player. The award supports juniors or seniors of good character majoring in Business Administration, Accounting, Media Studies, Strategic Communication, or Journalism and Media Production with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.3. The Berniece J. Erwin Memorial Scholarship, established in 2011, awards two students annually, one male and one female, for tuition, room and board, books, and reasonable spending needs. The actual amount is determined each year by college administration. Eligible students must be Florida residents, juniors or seniors in good standing, and rank in the upper 25 percent of their class. Continuing students apply through the February online scholarship portal. Full-time enrollment is required for institutional awards at Flagler College.

Flagler College alumni who majored in English established this scholarship in 2000 to honor Dr. Andrew Dillon, who retired in 2000 after 28 years teaching in the English Department. The award supports a junior English major with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 who has shown distinct improvement in understanding and appreciating literature, as judged by instructors. Continuing students apply during the February institutional scholarship period. Full-time enrollment is required for all Flagler institutional scholarships.

Florida East Coast Industries established this endowed scholarship in 2000, reflecting a shared history with Flagler College traceable to Henry Flagler. Eligible students must be Florida residents with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 who are children or grandchildren of employees of Florida East Coast Railway or its subsidiaries. If no such applicants qualify, preference goes to students with demonstrated financial need.
