Scholarships at Chapman University

Talent awards of $250 to $2,000 per year for up to four years for select Chapman University students in the BFA in Creative Writing program who demonstrate exceptional writing ability and commitment to creative activity, scholarship, and service. Applicants submit a portfolio with a creative writing sample (up to 10 pages), a 600-word "On Writing" essay, and proof of BFA admission by email or mail to the Creative Writing Program Director. Fall applicants must submit materials by March 25; faculty notify recipients after April 15. Awards stack above the standard financial aid package.

A $2,000 scholarship for Chapman University undergraduates affiliated with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) or the United Church of Christ who are encouraged to participate in Disciples on Campus. To inquire, email churchrelations@chapman.edu with the name and mailing address of the church you attend. This award is not stackable with Chapman merit scholarships such as the Dean's Scholarship; the greater-value award is applied. Annual grant of $2,000 ($1,000 per fall and spring semester) for Chapman University undergraduates who are the child or sibling of a Chapman University degree graduate. Recipients must be admitted to an undergraduate degree program, enroll full time, and maintain a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA. First-year students may receive the award for eight semesters; transfer students receive funding for eight semesters minus prior full-time college semesters. Submit the Panther Alumni Award application to the Office of Undergraduate Financial Aid when eligibility begins.

Journalism talent awards up to $2,000 per year for up to four years for Chapman University students demonstrating exceptional talent in journalistic writing and commitment to the journalism program. Recipients must major in English with a Journalism concentration or minor in Journalism or Visual Journalism. Applicants email a portfolio PDF with a one-page journalism resume, cover letter with GPA and test scores, three to five published work samples, and one letter of recommendation to the Interim Journalism Program Director. Fall deadline is March 25; spring deadline is November 1.

Annual $2,000 scholarship for admitted or enrolled Chapman University undergraduates who demonstrate need on the FAFSA. First preference goes to students from the Northern California-Nevada Region of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ); second preference to any Disciples member in the United States and Canada. Applicants submit the Dyer Education Fund application and three signed reference letters postmarked or emailed by March 20 each year. Recipients are notified by April 20 and must reapply annually.
