Scholarships at Calvin University

The Nyhoff, Larry and Sharlene Scholarship in Computer Science is a donor-funded named award for Calvin University students pursuing computer science. First-year students with at least a 2.8 GPA may apply through Calvin's centralized Named Scholarships application on AcademicWorks between December 1 and February 1. You complete one application and are automatically considered for all matching scholarships. Essay responses must address donor-specific criteria listed for each award. Recipients are notified as part of Calvin's annual named scholarship selection process.

The Dr. Sandra E. Klassen Memorial Scholarship honors the legacy of a Calvin chemistry alumna and Sandia National Labs scientist. Calvin awards $4,500 annually to a female junior or senior studying chemistry at Calvin University. The scholarship is funded by the Klassen family to ease financial burdens for women pursuing chemistry careers. Students apply through Calvin's Named Scholarships application during the annual December through January cycle. Recipients are selected based on donor criteria for women chemistry majors in their upper undergraduate years.

The VanderLeest, Steve and Pam Computer Engineering Scholarship is a named award for junior and senior Calvin University students in computer engineering or related programs. Applicants need a minimum 3.3 GPA and must complete Calvin's Named Scholarships application on AcademicWorks between December 1 and February 1. One application covers all eligible donor scholarships. Essay questions and faculty recommendation contacts are required for competitive awards. Selection is made by department faculty reviewing applications and supporting materials.

Current Calvin University students accepted into the semester in Washington, D.C. may apply for the Paul B. Henry Semester in Washington, D.C. Scholarship of $2,000. Applicants need a minimum 3.20 cumulative GPA and should show personal and intellectual maturity, seriousness of purpose, and interest in civic engagement. Financial need is considered.

The Calvin National Merit Supplement is a $2,000 annual award for National Merit Finalists who select Calvin University as their first-choice school with the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. Calvin offers this supplement in addition to the Trustee's Scholarship tier for qualifying finalists. The supplement is available for four years and renews while the recipient makes satisfactory academic progress. National Merit Finalists requiring a fifth year of study remain eligible for the $2,000 supplement during that additional year. Finalists may receive only one National Merit Scholarship sponsor award.
