Veterinary Medicine Scholarships in Canada

For continuing University of Calgary Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Doctor of Veterinary Medicine students in third or fourth year. One award is offered for year 3 and one for year 4. Selection considers academic merit, excellence in large-animal medicine, and interest in pursuing large-animal health as a career. Students of any citizenship or residency may be considered. Two scholarships of up to $9,000 each are offered annually. Students are considered through the Undergraduate Nominated awards process for continuing students. Funded by the Church Family.

U.S. or Canadian residents enrolled as undergraduate or graduate students in veterinary medicine or a related field at an accredited university, with a minimum 2.5 GPA, may apply for the Paw Prosper Student of Veterinary Medicine Scholarship. Two $1,000 scholarships are awarded annually. Prepare a cover page with required personal and educational information and write an essay of no more than 1,000 words on the future of veterinary medicine and your desired contribution to the profession. Top Doctor of Veterinary Medicine students at the Atlantic Veterinary College may receive G. Murray and Hazel Hagerman Scholarships (DVM). Funds remaining after the related MSc tuition award are divided among the top two DVM students in each of the first-, second-, and third-year classes from the previous year. Six awards in that DVM distribution; amounts vary with available funds.

Alberta residents who are Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or protected persons enrolled in (or applying to) a full-time, four-year Doctor of Veterinary Medicine program with a large-animal or large-and-small-animal focus may apply for this return-of-service bursary. The school and program must be designated for provincial funding, and applicants must not be in default on a provincial student loan. Support is available for all four years. The $7,000 option requires living and working in northern Alberta for one year per bursary year received. A partnership option can provide up to $14,000 per year ($7,000 from the Northern Alberta Development Bursary program plus $7,000 from a sponsor), with return-of-service in the sponsor's specified program area. Students may receive only one of the Northern Alberta Development Bursary, First Nations, Métis and Inuit Bursary, or Bursary Partnership Program types per academic year. University of Prince Edward Island first-year Doctor of Veterinary Medicine students may receive this scholarship for the highest composite average in VBS 111 (Microscopic Anatomy I) and VBS 112 (Microscopic Anatomy II). One award of $485 is given. No separate application is typically required beyond course performance.

Recipients are selected on the greatest improvement during the first year, academic achievement, enthusiasm, professional deportment, and class participation.
