Skilled Trades Scholarships in Canada

SAIT students in any trades-related pre-employment program who demonstrate financial need may apply. Applicants write an essay on their career goals. Five awards are available in the Fall and five in the Spring. The Princess Auto Foundation provides ten $3,000 awards across Fall and Spring semesters. Apply through mySAIT Student Awards and Financial Aid by November 28 or May 30.

Entrance scholarships administered through Saskatchewan post-secondary institutions for graduating high school students. University of Saskatchewan and University of Regina each offer a $2,500 award to CAA Saskatchewan members or their children who are Saskatchewan residents, while Saskatchewan Polytechnic distributes $3,750 across automotive service and auto body technician certificate programs with a broader eligibility window. Apply directly through the participating school's awards office; institutions evaluate academic merit, financial need, and extracurricular involvement.

Mature students who have been out of high school for three years or more and are entering the Industrial Heavy Equipment Technology program are eligible. You must be an Alberta resident. Awards are based on academic achievement and financial need. The award is worth $2,000. One award is available.

Canadian citizen SAIT apprentices in their first period of technical training enrolled in the Recreation Vehicle Service Technician program may apply. Candidates must be employed by a member of the Recreation Vehicle Dealers' Association (RVDA), be considered most improved, and show academic achievement in shop skills. Domestic students only. Two apprentice awards of $1,250 each are offered for the Spring semester. Apply through mySAIT Student Awards and Financial Aid.

Second-year apprenticeship students at NAIT in Boilermaker, Crane and Hoisting Equipment Operator, Gasfitter, Heavy Equipment Technician, Instrument Technician, Machinist, Millwright, Steamfitter/Pipefitter, Structural Steel and Plate Fitter, or Welder programs may qualify. The scholarship awards $1,000. Selection is based on academic achievement in both NAIT and provincial exams during the second year of apprenticeship. Apply through NAIT MyAwards Central. Sponsored by Dale Laniuk, this apprenticeship scholarship honours the Right Honourable Don Mazankowski and rewards trades students who excel in their certification exams.

Open to second-year SAIT students enrolled in the Automotive Service Technology program in the School of Transportation. International students are eligible. Candidates should demonstrate academic achievement and a positive attitude. Preference goes to a student from Alberta. One $1,000 school-specific award is available for the Winter semester. Apply through mySAIT Student Awards and Financial Aid by January 28.

Apprentices in the Gasfitter B program within the School of Construction at SAIT may apply. You must be a team player with a positive attitude, a top shop mark above 85%, and good attendance. Five awards of $1,000 are available across Fall and Spring semesters, with two in Fall and three in Spring. Apply through mySAIT Student Awards and Financial Aid by November 28 or May 30.

Alberta Student Aid offers three $1,000 scholarships to current-year Alberta high-school graduates who enroll full-time in agriculture, engineering, fine arts, health, or trades studies and demonstrate strong Grade 12 achievement. Preference is given to a current-year Sexsmith Secondary School graduate.

Open to a graduating Industrial Millwright student at Northern College who demonstrates financial need, outstanding program progress and performance, dedication to studies, and involvement in college life. The $500 bursary is awarded through the Northern College Student Financial Assistance portal.

Recent Yukon high school graduates (within five years) accepted to a post-secondary trades, diploma, or degree program may receive this Yukon Association of Education Professionals bursary. Two $500 awards are paid to the registrar of the recipient's institution. A single YAEP application covers all YAEP scholarships and bursaries; apply via yaep.ca by August 31. Established to commemorate YAEP's 50th anniversary.
