Political Science Scholarships in Canada

Western University fourth-year Honours students in History or Economics with at least 80% in the previous year and demonstrated financial need may apply for the Grant and Peggy Reuber Merit Scholarships. Recipients are selected for scholarly potential and promise for distinguished achievement after graduation, including leadership and other personal qualities. Two awards of $8,500 are available annually (one History, one Economics when qualified candidates exist). Submit a financial assistance application through Student Center by September 30.

University of Guelph students registered in any program offered by the College of Social and Applied Human Sciences with demonstrated financial need, who meet the government-mandated terms for an OTSS award, may receive this $5,000 bursary. One award is available. Preference is given to female students registered in the Department of Family Relations and Applied Nutrition. Apply through University of Guelph student financial awards processes by October 7.

Third- or fourth-year honours undergraduates in political science, international development, international studies and modern languages, or conflict studies and human rights, or full-time master's students in public and international affairs or international development and globalization at the University of Ottawa Faculty of Social Sciences, who are Ontario residents, demonstrate financial need, and completed an exchange or international internship during the academic year may apply. The award is $4,000. Apply through Online Scholarships and Bursaries in uoZone with the Financial Questionnaire, a transcript, and exchange or internship documentation by November 3.

U.S. or Canadian citizens or permanent residents with at least junior standing in a German Studies track or minor, or graduate students in humanities and social sciences working on German Studies, may be nominated by a department or program chair for DAAD German Studies Research Grants. PhD students preparing dissertation proposals on modern German topics may also be nominated; students whose proposals were formally accepted more than one year before the deadline are not eligible. Grants of up to $3,000 support one to two months of short-term research in Germany. The number of recipients varies. Nomination by a supervising professor or principal advisor is required. Applications are accepted in spring and fall each year through the DAAD application process.

Entering or continuing full-time master's or doctoral students at the University of Lethbridge pursuing demography and population studies may apply. Applicants need a cumulative or entering GPA of 3.5 or higher. Preference is given to students working with the Prentice Institute. The award is $2,000. Decisions are normally announced by early March, and the recipient is named at the annual Warren Kalbach Conference in Edmonton. The Society of Edmonton Demographers supports research and learning of demography in Alberta and Canada and funds this scholarship to advance graduate training in the field.

For a Year 3 or 4 student in the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Windsor who is of Black African descent. Applicants must show active involvement and leadership in campus activities, groups, or clubs; meet a minimum 72% average; and demonstrate financial need. Candidates must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents (including Protected Persons) who meet OSAP Ontario residency requirements. Three awards of $2,000 are available annually. Apply online.

Full-time third-year honours students in the University of Ottawa School of Political Studies who are Ontario residents, demonstrate financial need, and earned at least B+ in compulsory second-year courses may apply. Preference is given to students pursuing an International Co-operation Program exchange. This OSOTF scholarship is valued at up to $1,500. Submit via uoZone with the Financial Questionnaire by November 3. The André Laurendeau Scholarship assists Political Studies honours students whose education would otherwise be compromised.

University of Winnipeg students who demonstrate financial need and are taking one or more courses in Urban and Inner-City Studies at Merchants Corner may apply for this bursary. One recipient receives $1,000 annually. Apply through the university awards portal.

Outstanding University of Windsor undergraduates entering year 3 or 4 of an honours program in Sociology, Anthropology, Political Science, or Geography, with a minimum 75% cumulative average and pursuing studies in race, ethnic, or intergroup relations as they relate to Canada's heritage, may apply.
