Physics Scholarships in Canada

University of Prince Edward Island students are eligible for this prize, awarded to the student ranking highest in Physics 221 on the recommendation of the Chair of the Physics Department. One prize of $200 is given. No application is required.

Academically outstanding undergraduate students in Carleton University's Physics program are eligible for these scholarships. One scholarship goes to a student entering third year, and one goes to a student entering fourth year who achieved the best standing in laboratory course(s). Two scholarships are awarded; amounts vary. No application is required.

University of Prince Edward Island students who have declared Physics as their major and are enrolled in Physics 221 and 211 in their second year are eligible for this prize. The recipient is the top first-year student with the highest marks in Physics 111, 122, or 112 and Math 151 and 152. One prize of $200 is awarded. Selection is made by the Department of Physics; no application is required.

Queen's University students registered in the Engineering Physics program or in an upper year of a B.Sc. (Honours) program with a concentration in Physics are eligible for this bursary, awarded on the basis of financial need and academic excellence. One award is given; the amount varies. Brock University Physics students may receive this in-course prize. It is awarded to one or more outstanding students in Physics. The amount varies. Selection is based on academic standing in Physics; check Brock awards materials for how recipients are chosen.

University of Waterloo Year One Faculty of Science students interested in majoring in Physics who are Ontario residents with strong academic standing and demonstrated financial need may receive this entrance bursary. One or more awards are available; the amount varies. Apply through the University of Waterloo Entrance Bursary. Funded by University of Waterloo alumni to support students entering Physics.

Students entering the first semester of a B.Sc. or B.Sc. (Tech.) program with a minimum 85.0% admission average and a declared intention to major in Physics, Physics and Technology, Biophysics, Chemical Physics, or Theoretical Physics (or a co-op stream of these programs) may be considered for this award. Several awards of $4,000 are available for eligible entering students.

Full-time undergraduate students in the Medical Physics Program at Toronto Metropolitan University are eligible for one of three awards: the highest CGPA at the end of second year, the highest CGPA at the end of third year or later, or the highest average across five physics courses taken in first and second year while enrolled in third year. Each Physics Faculty Scholarship Award provides $1,000. Faculty within the Department of Physics fund the awards.

Simon Fraser University students graduating from any major or honours physics program may receive this Department of Physics prize. One award of $2,300 goes to a top graduating student on the recommendation of the Department Chair. No separate student application is described; the Chair recommends the recipient. The endowment recognizes the nine charter faculty members who founded the department in 1965: John F. Cochran, Konrad Colbow, Richard H. Enns, Robert F. Frindt, Rudi R. Haering, David J. Huntley, J.C. Irwin, Klaus E. Rieckhoff, and K.S. Viswanathan.

University of Guelph B.Sc. students majoring in BMPH, BMPH:C, CHPY, CHPY:C, PHYS, PHYS:C, or THPY who have completed between 6.00 and 11.00 credits with a minimum 80% cumulative average are eligible. Selection is based on the highest combined averages in core physics courses and cumulative average, with preference for recipients from different majors. The award cannot be held with another Department of Physics award and can be held only once. Four awards of $1,800 are given in winter. No application is required.
