Mechanical Engineering Scholarships in Canada

Open to an engineering student in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at UBC Vancouver who has demonstrated outstanding communication skills in written work or seminar presentations. A prize of $250 has been endowed to promote and recognize communication excellence. Recipients are selected on the recommendation of the Department of Mechanical Engineering. There is no separate application.

Mechanical Engineering students at Toronto Metropolitan University are recognized for outstanding academic performance based on cumulative grade point average. The award is $200.

For full-time Ontario Tech Mechanical Engineering undergraduates with a GPA of 3.7 or higher. One award of $5,500 is available. Apply through Ontario Tech Student Awards and Financial Aid donor awards.

University of Alberta Faculty of Engineering students with superior academic achievement entering the second year of a Bachelor of Engineering with a major in Mechanical Engineering are considered for this endowed Cenovus Energy scholarship. Up to two awards are available; the value varies. Selection is based on academic standing. Apply through the U of A Awards Hub.

Outstanding Ph.D. students in Mechanical Engineering at UBC Vancouver who have written a strong doctoral dissertation may be nominated for this prize. Prizes totalling $1,000 are made available annually by the Department of Mechanical Engineering; individual prize amounts vary. There is no separate application. Recipients are selected on the recommendation of the Department of Mechanical Engineering. The prize honours Professor Martha Salcudean (FRSC, OC, OBC) (1934-2019), who served as Head of the department from 1985 to 1993 and was an internationally distinguished researcher recognized for her contributions to metallurgy and pulp and paper processes.

For a student entering third year in the UBC Mechanical Engineering Program in the Faculty of Applied Science, with preference for a high academic average and demonstrated interest in the energy sector. A $9,000 scholarship is endowed by Talisman Energy. There is no separate student application. The award is made on the recommendation of the Faculty of Applied Science.

Open to graduate students in Mechanical Engineering at UBC. The award is a $2,000 prize endowed by Dr. V.J. Modi, Professor of Mechanical Engineering, on the occasion of his receiving the Killam Prize, to promote and recognize academic excellence. No separate application is required. The Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering recommends recipients in consultation with the Faculty of Graduate Studies.

Third- or fourth-year undergraduate students or graduate students in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Victoria may be nominated. One in-course scholarship is awarded; value varies. The Senate Committee on Awards or Graduate Awards Committee selects recipients on departmental recommendation. No application is required.

Queen's University Smith Engineering students in second, third, or fourth year of Mechanical Engineering with demonstrated financial need may apply for the Arthur Smith Bursary in Mechanical Engineering. The bursary amount varies. Apply to Financial Aid and Awards by October 31. Established in 2003 by Arthur E. Smith, B.Sc. (Mech. Eng.) 1934.

Outstanding students entering the first year of Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering at the University of Waterloo who have exceptional academic and extracurricular records may be considered. Two scholarships, valued at up to $5,000 each, are presented annually. These awards are made possible by a donation from Arthur Church, BASc '76 Mechanical Engineering.
