Kinesiology and Recreation Scholarships in Canada

Canadian citizens enrolled full time at a Canadian college or university in second year or higher in outdoor recreation, environmental studies, or a related program may apply. One scholarship of $2,000 is available. Applicants need a B+ (75%) or higher average, a paddling background, and demonstrated financial need. Submit the online application with a cover letter, eligibility proof, transcript, course summary, career statement, personal philosophy, and paddling credentials between May 1 and September 30. The award honours Bill Mason, Canadian canoeist, environmentalist, filmmaker, and artist.

Open to a student in the Fitness and Lifestyle Area of Concentration or Fitness and Lifestyle major of the Faculty of Kinesiology and Health Studies. Preference is given to applicants with volunteer experience in the Dr. Paul Schwann Applied Health and Research Centre cardiac program. One scholarship of $1,400 is awarded annually. Full-time University of Windsor students involved in the study of issues resulting from age-related changes in human functioning may apply. A minimum cumulative average of 73% and demonstrated involvement in this field are required. The award alternates between a graduate student and a level 3 or 4 undergraduate student. Continuing female York University student-athletes who are Honours Kinesiology and Health Science majors with a cumulative grade average of 6.00 (B) or better may apply. Candidates must have demonstrated excellence as a member of the women's field hockey team for at least one year. Recipients must be Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or protected persons; residents of Ontario; and demonstrate financial need. One $1,350 award is presented.

Open to University of Regina students registered full time in the Faculty of Kinesiology and Health Studies, majoring in Sport and Recreation Management within the Bachelor of Sport and Recreation Studies. You need at least 24 credit hours completed, a minimum 70% CGPA, a Saskatchewan high school diploma, and demonstrated involvement in sport or recreation development in Saskatchewan. One award of $1,275 is offered. Apply with a detailed summary of no more than one page explaining your sport or recreation development work in Saskatchewan.

Self-declared Aboriginal University of Regina students enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate Kinesiology and Health Studies degree program may apply. You must demonstrate leadership in recreation, sport, physical activity, or related fields. One $1,200 award is granted. Preference goes to graduate students, then entering undergraduates, then continuing undergraduates. Apply with a leadership statement and current transcripts. Entering students qualify on admission average with at least nine fall credit hours; continuing students need a minimum 65% CGPA and at least 15 completed credit hours.

Honours Kinesiology and Health Science students at York University entering Year 4 (84 credits) with a minimum 6.00 (B) cumulative average who have distinguished themselves through public service in the university and community may apply for the Bryce M. Taylor Memorial Scholarship. One scholarship of $1,200 is available. Apply via FAAS by October 15. Named in honour of Dr. Bryce Taylor, founding Chair and Director of the School of Kinesiology and Health Science.

Students entering Year 1 Kinesiology at the University of Windsor may apply. Candidates should have a minimum average of 75% in the subjects required for admission. One entrance award of $1,000 is granted annually. Each candidate must submit a typewritten paper not exceeding 1,000 words on an aspect of kinesiology to the Faculty of Human Kinetics. Canadian citizens, permanent residents, protected or refugee status holders, or international students registered full-time or part-time in a School of Human Kinetics program at the University of Ottawa Faculty of Health Sciences who are in good academic standing and demonstrate financial need may apply. The School of Human Kinetics Scholarship supports Human Kinetics students who combine good academic standing with financial need.

Full-time undergraduate students in the Faculties of Science, Nursing, or Human Kinetics at the University of Windsor may apply. Candidates need a minimum cumulative average of 78%, part-time employment of 10 or more hours per week, demonstrated financial need, and Canadian citizenship or permanent resident status with Ontario residency.
