Geology Scholarships in Canada

For graduate students enrolled in an Earth & Environmental Sciences program who, on the recommendation of the School of Earth, Environment & Society, demonstrate academic and research excellence. The scholarship is $5,000 and is renewable for one year if the student maintains good academic standing. Established in 2020 by D. Keith MacDonald (Hons. B.Sc., Magna Cum Laude, Class of 1980).

Full-time year 4 undergraduate students at the University of Windsor in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or Biology. Requires a minimum 80% cumulative average and demonstrated financial need. Candidates must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents (including protected persons) who meet OSAP Ontario residency requirements. One scholarship of $3,000. University of Prince Edward Island students from Parkdale-Sherwood or the surrounding area who are entering third year in Arts, Science, or Business. One in-course scholarship of $2,710. Administered through UPEI scholarships and awards (separate from the Holland College Parkdale-Sherwood Lions Club Community Service Award).

University of Guelph students registered in any program in the College of Biological Science, the College of Computational, Mathematical, and Physical Sciences, or the College of Engineering who have completed at least 2.5 credits, and who meet the government-mandated terms for an OTSS award, may apply. One award of $1,500. Selection is based on financial need. Apply by October 7 with a completed Financial Need Assessment Form. Established on behalf of the Van Loon family in honour of parents John and Margaret Van Loon.

Students accepted to or enrolled in accredited U.S. college, trade, or high school STEM programs may apply for South Florida Forensic Engineering's annual STEM scholarship. Submit a one to two page essay, transcript, student ID, and contact details by email. One $1,000 award is made each year. Winners are notified by January 31. High school students accepted into qualifying STEM programs are eligible alongside current college and technical school enrollees.

University of Guelph honours students in the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences who have completed at least 4.0 credits and demonstrated financial need may be considered. One one-time award of $1,000 is available. Submit an in-course Financial Needs Assessment Form to Student Financial Services by October 7. Eligible students receive automatic consideration once the form is submitted. This is an OSOTF ACCESS award.

Queen's University undergraduates in financial need who are enrolled in Geological Sciences in the Faculty of Arts and Science may receive the Harold R. Steacy Bursary. Award value varies. Apply via the Queen's General Bursary application. Established by Harold R. Steacy, B.Sc. '46.

Full-time graduate students in the physical geography thesis program in Geography, Environment and Geomatics at the University of Ottawa who meet Ontario residency, academic excellence, and financial need requirements are eligible. The award value varies. Apply through Online Scholarships and Bursaries in uOZone by November 3 with the Financial Questionnaire, transcript, and a 250-word thesis summary.

Full-time undergraduate students in the University of Ottawa Faculty of Science who are Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or persons with protected or refugee status, Ontario residents (per OSAP rules), and demonstrate financial need. Award amount varies (OSOTF). Apply through Online Scholarships and Bursaries in uoZone with the Financial Questionnaire. Deadline October 31.

Open to an Indigenous student from across Canada pursuing a career in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). Award amounts vary by sponsoring fund and are not published as a fixed figure on the Indspire listing. Apply once through Indspire's Building Brighter Futures portal. One complete application is considered for every applicable bursary and scholarship. Consideration rounds close August 1, November 1, and February 1 at 11:59 p.m. EST each academic year; a complete application carries forward across rounds until February 1.
