Environmental Science Scholarships in Canada

For third- or fourth-year students in the Environmental Science program at Simon Fraser University with excellent academic standing. One scholarship of $3,000 is granted annually in any term by the Senate Undergraduate Awards Adjudication Committee. Apply with a letter describing your commitment to and interest in environmental science.

McMaster University students in Level 2, 3, 4, or 5 of a B.Sc. program in the School of Geography and Earth Sciences who demonstrate leadership and influence in addressing environmental matters may receive one of two Helen Emery Scholarships in Environmental Science ($1,850 each). Recipients must have attained a Fall-Winter Average of 9.5 or greater, in the judgment of the School. Established in 1990 by Miss Helen Emery of Barrie, Ontario.

Full-time University of Toronto undergraduates enrolled in the Environmental Science Major, Environment and Health Specialist or Major, Environment and Toxicology Specialist, or Environmental Geosciences Specialist may be considered. Up to one award is available; the value varies. Selection weighs academic merit and financial need. No application is required; eligible students are considered automatically in-course.

Full-time undergraduate students in the Environmental Sciences Program at the University of Ottawa Faculty of Science who are Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or protected/refugee status holders, Ontario residents (per OSAP rules) with financial need, and in good academic standing. OTSS scholarship of up to $5,000; number of awards varies. Apply through Online Scholarships and Bursaries in uoZone with the Financial Questionnaire.

Master's students in the GLIER Environmental Science program at the University of Windsor may apply. Awarded on academic merit. Candidates must be Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or protected persons who meet Ontario residency requirements and demonstrate financial need. One scholarship of $700 is available annually. Full-time domestic University of Toronto Scarborough undergraduates enrolled in Environmental Studies or Environmental Science in the Department of Physical and Environmental Sciences who demonstrate financial need may receive the Larry Holbrook Award in Environmental Science as a named UTAPS grant. The amount covers unmet need after government student aid. Apply through the Need Navigator. This is distinct from the separate Larry Holbrook Award for Green and Sustainable Technologies on the UTSC Awards Profile.

McMaster University students entering Level III or IV (or Year V of a Co-op program) in Honours Earth and Environmental Sciences who have notable academic standing and demonstrate leadership at McMaster or in the community may apply. Selection is by the School of Geography and Earth Sciences. One scholarship of $2,500. Apply through McMaster AwardSpring by April 29. Established in 2000 by Inco Limited (now Vale Canada Ltd.).

Brandon University student in the B.Sc. Environmental Science program, selected on academic ability and community involvement related to environmental awareness or action. Applicants must submit a detailed account of those community activities and a letter of support from someone in the community. If no eligible final-year Environmental Studies candidate is available, the Program Coordinator may recommend a third-year Environmental Science student or another Faculty of Science student who best meets the criteria. A student may receive this award only once.

University of Alberta students with superior academic achievement entering the third year of a Bachelor of Science in Forestry, Forest Business Management, or Environmental and Conservation Sciences in the Faculty of Agricultural, Life and Environmental Sciences may be considered. A demonstrated interest in land reclamation and restoration, renewable resource management, ecosystem restoration, or soil science is expected. Up to three awards are available; the value varies. Selection is based on academic standing. Apply through the U of A Awards Hub.

University of Guelph students in Environmental Sciences or the Bio-Resource Management Environmental Management major who have completed at least 4.0 credits may receive this $3,200 scholarship. Candidates need demonstrated leadership and financial need; preference goes to students with a farming background. Submit the In-Course Financial Need Assessment Form and the named scholarship application by October 7.
