Environmental Engineering Scholarships in Canada

Indigenous (First Nations, Inuit, or Métis) or Black (African Canadian, Caribbean Canadian, or Afro-Caribbean heritage) PhD candidates who meet admission requirements for a Faculty of Engineering PhD program at the University of Ottawa and are Canadian citizens or permanent residents are eligible. Recipients receive $25,000 per year for four years plus IBET mentorship. Apply online with a CV, statement of purpose, supervisor letter of support, and any other relevant documents. Deadlines: Fall October 31, Winter March 31, Summer July 31. Short-listed candidates or supervisors may be contacted for an interview. The IBET Momentum Fellowship is a partnership among Canadian universities aimed at increasing Indigenous and Black representation in engineering academia and STEM.

Female international students accepted to or enrolled in a full-time STEM degree program at a U.S. or Canadian school that MPOWER supports may apply. For U.S. study, applicants must be permanent residents, DACA recipients, or hold a valid study-permitting visa. For Canadian study, applicants must be permanent residents or hold a valid study permit. U.S. citizens studying in the U.S. and Canadian citizens studying in Canada are not eligible. Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or protected or refugee-status students enrolled full-time in undergraduate Engineering or Science programs (biotechnology, civil, chemical, biology, biochemistry, geology, or environmental science) at the University of Ottawa who demonstrate financial need and embody Englobe values through community engagement and interest in engineering or environmental fields may apply. At least one scholarship of $2,500 is available. Apply via uoZone with the Financial Questionnaire and a 500-word letter by October 31. The award recognizes students whose work reflects Englobe's values and commitment to the next generation of engineers.

Open to undergraduate students entering year two of chemical, computer, electrical, environmental, mechanical, or software engineering. In support of employment equity, eligible candidates are women, Aboriginal Canadians, persons with disabilities, or visible minorities who have achieved a minimum 75% average in first year and demonstrated strong communication skills, leadership, and extracurricular involvement. Ontario Power Generation provides one award valued at $2,400. Interested students should apply during their 1B term. The successful candidate must be legally eligible to work in Canada upon graduation.

For a senior undergraduate student in an environmental program at the University of Windsor who intends to pursue further environmental studies. Eligible areas include Biological Sciences, Chemistry and Biochemistry, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Earth Sciences, Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, or Visual Arts (Green Corridor included). Based on academic achievement (minimum cumulative average of 83%), proven financial need, and citizenship. Candidates must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents (including Protected Persons) who meet OSAP Ontario residency requirements. One award of $1,100 is available annually. Apply online.

University of Guelph honours students in the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences who have completed at least 4.0 credits and demonstrated financial need may be considered. One one-time award of $1,000 is available. Submit an in-course Financial Needs Assessment Form to Student Financial Services by October 7. Eligible students receive automatic consideration once the form is submitted. This is an OSOTF ACCESS award.

Outstanding students entering Year 2 in Civil or Environmental Engineering at the University of Windsor who combine scholarship with extracurricular activities within the university or community may apply. A minimum cumulative average of 68% is required. One award of $600 is available. Apply online. Supported by continuing donations from graduates of Chemical, Civil, and Environmental Engineering.

Graduate students whose programs focus on resource conservation, resource management, environmental impact, pollution control, environmental sustainability, sustainable energy systems, fuel cells, community-based environmental research, or alternative energy systems design may apply for the Edward Bassett Family Bursary. One or more bursaries are awarded; the value varies. Deadlines differ by term: Summer term applications are due June 1; Winter term applications are due October 15.

Students with demonstrated financial need and satisfactory academic standing may qualify for this bursary. The award amount varies. One bursary is available. Apply through the Faculty of Engineering, Studley Campus.

University of Toronto undergraduate or graduate students who demonstrate financial need and are residents of Toronto may receive the Dan Leckie City of Toronto Award. Eligible fields include the Division of the Environment or Community Studies and related areas such as Political Science, Economics, Sociology, Health Science, and Education. Award amounts vary based on need and available funding. Students in qualifying programs apply through University of Toronto financial aid and in-course award channels.
