Biology Scholarships in Canada

Graduate Biology students at the University of Ottawa who have completed at least one year and one teaching-assistant term and distinguish themselves in teaching and knowledge sharing on campus, off campus, or online. At least $3,500. Apply via uoZone by October 31 with a CV, a 250 to 500-word knowledge-sharing statement, and two recommendation letters (one from Biology faculty) sent to bioassis@uottawa.ca.

Outstanding Simon Fraser University Biomedical Physiology, Kinesiology, or Behavioral Neuroscience majors recruiting into the BPK graduate program. Applicants must have completed at least 90 credit hours applicable to the major (including 30 upper-division credits) with minimum CGPA and upper-division GPA of 3.67, and may apply before or after graduation but before accepting graduate admission. Up to three awards of $3,000 each per year, subject to funding availability. Submit the application form to bpk_programs@sfu.ca on a rolling basis before graduate enrollment. Paid as a lump-sum research assistantship.

Canadian citizens, permanent residents, protected/refugee status holders, or international students enrolled full- or part-time in the University of Ottawa Faculty of Engineering or Faculty of Science who are single mothers and demonstrate financial need may apply. For a student with superior academic achievement entering fourth year of a Bachelor of Science degree, specializing in Biochemistry. One scholarship of $1,250 is available. The recipient is selected on the basis of academic achievement. Apply through the Faculty of Science.

Canadian citizens or permanent residents (including protected persons) who are full-time Year 4 undergraduates at the University of Windsor in Chemistry/Biochemistry or Biology may apply. A minimum cumulative average of 85% is required. Financial need may be a consideration. The scholarship alternates between the two programs: Chemistry/Biochemistry in even-numbered years and Biology in odd-numbered years. One award of $1,200 is granted annually. For a senior undergraduate student in an environmental program at the University of Windsor who intends to pursue further environmental studies. Eligible areas include Biological Sciences, Chemistry and Biochemistry, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Earth Sciences, Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, or Visual Arts (Green Corridor included). Based on academic achievement (minimum cumulative average of 83%), proven financial need, and citizenship. Candidates must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents (including Protected Persons) who meet OSAP Ontario residency requirements. One award of $1,100 is available annually. Apply online.

Students accepted to or enrolled in accredited U.S. college, trade, or high school STEM programs may apply for South Florida Forensic Engineering's annual STEM scholarship. Submit a one to two page essay, transcript, student ID, and contact details by email. One $1,000 award is made each year. Winners are notified by January 31. High school students accepted into qualifying STEM programs are eligible alongside current college and technical school enrollees.

Aspiring medical school applicants who follow Inspira Advantage on social media may apply twice yearly for the MED Scholarship, worth up to $1,000 in admissions consulting or MCAT tutoring credits. Submit a two-minute public video (hashtags #InspiraAdvantage and #InspiraAdvantageMEDScholarship), a 250-word identity essay, transcript, and Google Form. Spring deadline is May 15; fall deadline is November 15.

Full-time undergraduate students in the Faculties of Science, Nursing, or Human Kinetics at the University of Windsor may apply. Candidates need a minimum cumulative average of 78%, part-time employment of 10 or more hours per week, demonstrated financial need, and Canadian citizenship or permanent resident status with Ontario residency. One award of $900 is available. Apply online through UWinAward. The scholarship honors Dr. John Kidd, Medical Director of the University of Windsor's Student Health Services from 1992 until 2004.

Queen's University students entering third or fourth year of a biology program with demonstrated financial need and academic standing may apply through the General Bursary application by October 31. Preference is given to students specializing in environmental biology. Bursaries of varying amount are available through the named general bursaries program. Established by family and friends of Professor Allen West, a long-time faculty member in the Department of Biology at Queen's, in recognition of his interest in entomology, environmental issues, and education.
