Agriculture Scholarships in Canada

Full-time MSc students in Biological Sciences at the University of Lethbridge focusing on sustainable agriculture may receive McCain Biology Sustainable Agriculture Awards, funded by the McCain Foundation. Qualified applicants with a BSc or equivalent who meet School of Graduate Studies admission requirements are automatically considered at admission. Six awards are valued at $20,000 per year for two years. No separate application is required.

Rural Manitoba students enrolled in the pre-agriculture program at Brandon University are eligible. One scholarship of $900 is awarded when the fund is fully endowed. Apply through Brandon University scholarships.

Open to University of Guelph O.A.C. students enrolled in the B.Sc.(Agr.), B.Comm., B.Sc., or B.Sc.(Env.) programs who demonstrate financial need and meet OSOTF terms. Preference is given to students from farm families who have participated in 4-H and/or rural community activities. Several awards of varying amounts are available. Apply by October 7 with a Financial Need Assessment Form and the OFA bursary application.

Outstanding Brandon University students enrolled in courses required for the Pre-Agriculture program (or equivalent) may be nominated by the Faculty of Science Advisor for the program. Three scholarships of $1,000 each are awarded annually.

Alberta residents in their second or subsequent year of full-time undergraduate study at an Alberta public post-secondary institution in agriculture or a related program. One $500 scholarship is available. Preference is given to members, children, or grandchildren of Alberta Federation of Agriculture members. Apply to Alberta Student Aid between August 1 and October 31.

Alberta residents in their second or subsequent year of full-time undergraduate study at an Alberta public post-secondary institution in a discipline related to agriculture. Four awards of $1,500 are available: two for diploma students and two for degree students. Submit an application form, official transcript, and Green Certificate if applicable to Alberta Student Aid between August 1 and October 31. Established by the Alberta Wheat Board Monies Trust to encourage academic excellence in agriculture-related fields.

Olds College students in the Agricultural Management program, preferably with an Agricommerce major, who are Alberta residents with above-average scholastic achievement and demonstrated financial need may apply. Up to one award of $1,000 is available. Apply through the Olds College awards portal during the fall awards cycle by October 31.

Outstanding undergraduate students in the Faculty of Land and Food Systems at UBC Vancouver majoring in Sustainable Agriculture and Environment may be considered for these scholarships. Scholarships totalling $4,250 are available from an endowment established by the estate of Dr. Margaret deMaine (1930-2022) in memory of the Honourable Arthur Laing (1904-1975). The Faculty of Land and Food Systems recommends recipients. Arthur Laing (B.Sc. 1925) studied Agriculture at UBC before becoming a committed Canadian politician who advocated for civil rights and urban development as a cabinet minister and Member of Parliament.

Open to the fourth-year UBC student with special interests in Sustainable Agriculture who has the highest aggregate standing in third- and fourth-year subjects, including the graduating thesis. A $350 prize awarded on faculty recommendation; no separate application. Given in memory of Dr. P. A. Boving, Professor of Agronomy from 1915 to 1940 and first Head of the Department.

Open to a student in the final year of any UBC faculty other than Agricultural Sciences who maintains at least a 75% average and has achieved the highest standing in at least 6 credits, with preference for 12 credits in the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences. A $550 prize awarded on the recommendation of the Faculty of Land and Food Systems; no separate application. One of the Agricultural Sciences Founding Faculty Prizes, established by Dean Emeritus Blythe Eagles and Mrs. Eagles in memory of Dr. Leonard Sylvanus Klinck.
